Stayed here for our 25th Wedding Aniverssary. Considering this was built circa 1150 it has to be said its ambience reflects this in some parts as they remain original style. Having said that the castle has had improvements made to its rooms and public areas. As it is a class 1 listed building these have been made in keeping as to complement its style. Ashley made our stay perfect, a very friendly host who has her guests interest at heart. This continues to be surveyed through her support staff who were also very pleasant and friendly. The food we were served was pleasantly filling and the afternoon tea was a dream. Our stay was in January so it was very cold outside. Inside the temperature was low during the day but from late afternoon the heating increased and made all areas comfortably warm including the bedrooms. At the time of writing the premises is up for sale by the current owners. It is hoped that any new owner keeps it on as a hotel because it will be an injustice if this was to disappear from view. Needs a few refinements but this is a difficult process due to its grade 1 listing. Having said that it is somewhere we will definitely return in the future

Arranged a family gathering - lunch, dinner and overnight stay. Food was excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Rooms are fine - not luxurious - but good value. The bonus was the large outdoor area which is ideal for walking. Magnificent building and great atmosphere.

We were here with friends for a Murder Mystery evening at the beginning of November. The evening was very entertaining, and the small company providing the Murder Mystery was very good. The 3 course meal provided was just right, served quickly by the staff and still hot, soup lovely bread rolls, then chicken breast wrapped in bacon and chunky vegetables, the chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. Good portion size and very well cooked and presented. We stayed over in a nice room in the annexe, comfy bed, small but very good bathroom and then breakfast. Staff very efficient and the food came quickly and was again cooked to perfection. All in all, it was a really good evening and overnight stay. Would recommend, and to book direct with the hotel.

The rooms need more due care and attention with regards to cleaning. The last time I stayed here there were dust webs in the main room and mould spots in the shower. This is unacceptable for any hotel. Aside from that it was mostly clean and pleasant, and I would stay here again if I was visiting the area. It is good value for money, but please ensure the rooms are given more attention as this does let the experience down.

Afternoon tea birthday celebration. Wonderful experience catering for 9 of us with 2 special dietary requirements. Staff could not have been more accommodating, and nothing was too much trouble for them. We had a lovely little library room to ourselves, which was great considering we had a toddler and child with us. I must say that the afternoon tea was one of the best I had eaten in a long while, and very little got taken home in the boxes provided! Well worth a return visit.
