We are a friendly country pub with delicious locally sourced food, a well stocked cellar, six cosy bedrooms and a warm welcome.
The Royal Oak Inn is a wonderful blend of traditional 19th architecture and fresh modern interior design.
Tucked away in the charming Wiltshire village of Swallowcliffe near Tisbury,
The Royal Oak has been an Inn since 1852 and is perfectly placed to explore the Wessex region,
steeped in history and surrounded by natural beauty.
Nearby attractions include Stonehenge, Salisbury Cathedral, Wardour Castle and Stourhead Gardens.
After lying dormant for over 7 years, The Royal Oak was recently lovingly renovated by
three of our village residents and their friend from across the valley with a mission to restore a much missed traditional pub to the heart of the local community.
With something for everyone, walks on the doorstop, wooden games, a large garden and treats for dogs,
Mark Treasure and all the team look forward to welcoming you to our village pub.

What a treat this place was! My family of three love James May — and wanted to enjoy a meal…and pick up a bottle of James Gin to bring home. The drive to get here was a real joy for this American—skinny country roads, at night — it was a lot of fun getting to The Royal Oak. The outside was decorated for Christmas & was quite lovely. The inside also had Christmas decorations up, adding to the charm of the pub (we were there 28th December). The food and drink: outstanding. Drinks were also top notch. Service went above and beyond for everybody enjoying a meal. We had watched YouTube videos to have a better understanding of what The Royal Oak was about; and our experience lived up to what we’d seen and exceeded our expectations. The next time we are in England we plan on booking rooms at The Royal Oak. If we had the time this past holiday season, we would have. Looking forward to our next visit.
Really brilliant food. Nice ambience during the daytime. Loses a star as feels slightly sterile in the evening. Also a small thing but very miserly portion of ice cream with the sticky toffee pudding and when I asked for more they charged me for a whole scoop separately - if it had been a proper scoop to start with then I wouldn’t have needed to ask. That said - one of the best local options and I will be back.
Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. The food was absolutely amazing, everything was cooked to perfection, portion sizes were very good and the food itself was of excellent quality and tasted delicious. The service was also fantastic, the staff couldn't do enough for us and were very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be coming back here again in the future.
The food is excellent, the service is outstanding and the staff are just wonderful to talk to. Really funny, couldn’t do more for you if you asked, and so very very kind. Stayed here on a quiet Sunday in November and had a wonderful time. Chris went out of his way to make sure I had a good experience despite being the only customer needing breakfast that morning. When dinner service was over it was fantastic to talk to the chefs at the bar. This is a brilliant place to eat, drink and rest, and I suggest you stop reading my review and book yourself a meal and a stay. The Royal Oak is one of my happy places, and I treasure every opportunity to visit here, so much so I’m travelling for the new years tasting menu. Please come here, you’ll love it.
We picked this place en route to family in Devon on a road trip and didn’t regret it one bit. The room was huge, comfortable with a nice view over the garden. The staff were all excellent and efficient, especially the tattooed guy working behind the bar who was next level efficient. The food was also very good indeed with great fish n chips and breakfast. Highly recommended!
