The Old Park Tavern Dorchester Road was puled down in August 1878 and a new pub, The Park Hotel was erected in Grange Road in 1879.
The Park Hotel was built in 1879 on land leased to Alfred Edwin Pope from Sir Frederic John Wiliam Johnstone M.P. of Westerhall in the county of Dumphries in North Britain.
Rent for the land was £20 per annum.
(The Popes had the pub built).
Edridge Pope purchased the freehold land for £870 on 31st January 1921.
The building was damaged by enemy action 27/28 May 1944.

We really enjoyed our two evenings this week at The Park. The atmosphere was very friendly, the beer (Directors) was well kept, and the food was tasty pub classics and good helpings too 😋. Good prices as well. We'll be back.
I go on a Thursday for the quiz. The pub in it's self is very nice cozy they have three ales on.They do food but I cannot comment as have not eaten there.
Great little local back street pub, well packed for quiz night. Nicely presented inside. Popped in for a pint which was good. Staff and locals were friendly which added to my visit. Enjoyed.
Lovely local pub. Friendly staff and a good choice of beer and cider. Haven't had the chance to eat here yet, but the food I saw coming out looked lovely! Outdoor area and comfy settee options inside too ;)
Went in for food and drinks based on the photos from previous reviews and was near our accommodation. But beer garden not quite as nice as the photos I saw from previous reviewers. The garden is more for smokers. Pub very dog friendly. Stayed for 1 pint and decided to move on.
