Renowned for its warm Yorkshire welcome, the Clifton Hotel Scarborough offers amazing, uninterrupted sea views, and is situated only a short distance from many of that town's attractions. This Scarborough hotel therefore makes for the perfect base for those visiting the Yorkshire Coast. With inspirational views across the North Sea and Scarborough's magnificent castle headland, it's easy to see how First World War poet Wilfred Owen was inspired to write some of his most famous works in this hotel.

The Clifton Hotel is perfect for families, with a host of activities and places to visit all year round, including Peasholm Park, offering pedal boats, shows, the famous Naval Warfare and Scarborough Sea Life Centre, where guests can go beneath the sea without even getting wet, and come face to face with everything from shrimps to sharks.

The Castle restaurant uses quality Yorkshire produce and serves a range of classic British dishes, as well as a choice of full English or continental breakfast each morning. Guests can to relax in the hotel's traditional bar, where they can also find large TVs or in the lounge area, which offers access to free Wi-Fi.

Room types at the Clifton vary in both traditional and contemporary styles. All include a TV, telephone, 24-hour room service and free tea and coffee. Each room also has a private bathroom with a hairdryer, whilst some enjoy views of the Bay, so guests can watch the local fisherman and surfers from the comfort of their room.

Room was clean but beds are so hard. Well they were in our room. Only one pillow supplied so didn't have the best night sleep. Restaurant food is horrible. Really Really horrible. £13.95 for the evening meal which the chef should have been embarrassed to put out. Breakfast was no better and at £8.00 you expect better quality food than what was served up. Some staff were OK some just didn't have time for you. Location is a bit away from attractions so if you struggle with walking you might want to give this one a miss. We had entertainment provided on one night. OMG perfect excuse for going back to our room. I think I will be giving this one a wide birth in future.

Friendly staff. I really liked our room. It was clean, large and had everything we needed. Lovely curtains framing a sea view. Excellent location. We didn't eat in the hotel so I can't comment on that aspect of things. Definitely would stay again. Thanks Clifton Hotel.

After I booked i was told to check the reviews which made me skeptical, on arrival the staff were lovely and helpful and my room was clean, fresh and lovely. The bed was comfy although an extra pillow would of been good but I didn't ask for extra. The views of the sea are stunning I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel has had some bad reviews. However this is the second time we've stayed here and booked multiple rooms and again we found it wonderful. Yes the hotel is old but only adds to its character. All 3 rooms were lovely. 2 of them boasting a bath. It was clean, comfortable and fantastic value for money. The staff couldn't be more helpful! I stay here with a wheelchair user. Even when the lift was temperamental the staff couldn't do enough in helping getting us to our room. We will definitely stay here again and again. I've given it 5 stars because although it's a bit dated it really has been a comfortable stay and we couldn't of asked for more

Very large, clean and comfortable room with a sea view. Decor is lovely. An historical building in a great location. A fan was provided considering the heatwave and that the windows don't open much but bottles of water should have been provided as well. Len was very nice and knowledgeable about Wilfred Owen and has made his own display you can view in the reception. There was a curtain that hadn't been hung properly and drinks were extortionately priced and there was a bar man who was slow to serve. Lift is small and old fashioned. Price of the room was okay but could have been a little better.
