About us

WELCOME TO THE NAVIGATION

Dating back to 1822, The Navigation Inn in Cosgrove overlooks the Grand Union Canal and surrounding countryside. Once bordered by a wharf yard, corn warehouses, a coach house, Brewhouse and numerous other buildings, this Victorian inn has been carefully restored and extended to create a destination venue with an extensive lounge and bar area, 80-seat restaurant, covered garden space, and dedicated carpark.

Our Mediterranean-inspired menu is freshly prepared in our open kitchen and served daily from 9am in our light-filled wood-panelled dining room. Weather permitting, you can dine outside in our substantial gardens which offer views of our resident willow tree, surrounding countryside and the canal.

Whether you’re tempted by our Neapolitan pizza, freshly prepared by one of our trained pizzaiolos and cooked in our wood-fired oven, or one of our dishes cooked in our charcoal-fuelled Josper grill, you’ll find we only use quality and responsibly sourced ingredients. Most dietary requirements are met with ease, and families can order from our bespoke children’s menu with accompanying activity pack.

Our lounge and bar area offers a range of seating options against a backdrop of exposed brickwork, timber beams and open fireplace. Our extensive and varied drinks menu includes Rainforest Alliance certified coffee, teas, a selection of ales, and wine that has been carefully selected by Enotria & Coe, a company that has built its knowledge over the course of the past 125 years.

Spur of the moment decision to grab a late lunch. This canal side pub does not disappoint. We had chorizo scotch egg, and honey baked camembert with artisan bread. We both had the chicken, gammon and leek pie which was rammed full of the tenderness, sweet and salty Gammon, lean chicken and leeks cooked to a perfection. The mash was creamy and the veg cooked just right. A bold statement but this pie is the best I've ever had. The shortcrust pastry was faultless, buttery, crunchy in the right places and not at all dry. All in all the food here is to die for! And all that without mentioning the views or how lovely the venue is. Go see for yourself, you won't be disappointed!

Follow Mr & Mrs R on TikTok. Had a wonderful day out at the Navigation Inn. This was to celebrate my friends birthday with a lovely lunch time meal. Due to the service and standard of food I am happy to announce that my friend had an amazing experience and he says he’ll cherish it forever. This pub by the canal was his mother’s favourite place. Unfortunately she died recently and our visit was not only to celebrate his birthday but to raise a glass as a loving tribute to an adored mother. 🥂 If your looking for a pub with great views, great ale, great service and great food… look no further. 👍🍺🥂🍽🏆

Excellent! From the moment we stepped through the door into a busy dining area we all felt welcome and relaxed. This feeling never slackened throughout our visit! We arrived for Sunday lunch to celebrate my daughter's and my birthdays with my two lovely grandchildren. We did not warn the Inn of this, but the friendly, attentive staff immediately picked up on the special occasion and set about contributing to a memorable experience. My roast was brought out in good time and well presented. Quite the best l can remember for a long time. Desserts were also superb with a surprise birthday presentation included, (see photos.) The children were as happy and relaxed as my daughter and l. In fact my daughter could not have chosen a better venue. Very good value for money, but do book ahead. A big, "Thank you!" to your happy, smiling, professional staff for a joyous experience!

A very good example of a Sunday roast. Gravy was rich with flavour. Beef was of a high quality and very well cooked. Carrots and green beans tasted fresh and cooked just right. Roast potatoes were crispy and fluffy inside. Cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets were an delicious compliment to the meal. Service was very friendly and accommodating. Atmosphere was calm and the view over the canal adds to the overall charm.

Lovely setting with views over the canal, good food but not great for the price. Service was, er, “casual”, but as they automatically add 10% service charge to all bills then the staff don’t exactly have to make any effort. VERY dog friendly, with dogs allowed in the bar, patio and garden (just not in the main dining room). They have a “Woof Wall” with photos of visiting dogs, drinking bowls, free treats AND an entire dog menu!
