Whilst it may look a bit rough and ready, the staff are really lovely and the roast absolutely delicious, with generous portions.

We went to the Highwayman in to celebrate my dad’s birthday, who is now in his mid 70s, knew that any place that does carvery on a Sunday can be busy so made the call to book a table of 10. The lady who answer the phone was really accommodating, explain it was a large group in before us, so we amended our time accordingly.. When we arrived, the welcome was warm and friendly. They Carney put us in a small room on the top of the stairs, which is perfect as it was incredibly busy as a half an hour wait for food, but it didn’t matter for us because we were taking her time catching up with each other. . In the day we went was the first day of them starting a delivery service so it’s really really busy. I think it was a little bit annoying. Was them serving up the delivery packages in tinfoil as you are queueing as you could see that that food was going out quicker than those in the pub. My suggestion would be that they said this app in the kitchen. Not only would it benefit them because of the small space at the front of the customers as they wouldn’t see 6 to 8, please being dished up while waiting for yours. Another suggestion, which may work or not would be for the meat to be carved up at the back as well and there might be an issue a temperature here and keeping me warm but again when you’re really busy just try to think of a quick and official leave serving people their dinner . Overall, everybody we dealt with her incredibly friendly. The food was lovely from cauliflower cheese, carrots, red cabbage, Yorkshire puddings potatoes, parsnips peas and not forgetting the meat which was ham beef pork and turkey and chicken I think .

Absolutely loved food here. It tastes hommade! Good old hearty food with a lot of options too. Very best of traditional English cuisine. If somebody would ask me I'd call it "on the road gastro pub"

Went here for a family reunion. Most of the food was good, except for the "Luxury" vegan burger, which was beyond a disappointment. Literally just a vegan patty, which was made of what seemed like lentils and carrots, between two buns. No sauce, no vegan cheese, nothing. They gave a side of chips and a salad with it, so I put that stuff in my burger in order to make it less pathetic. You're better off looking for a McDonalds. The good news is that the name of this Inn, "The Highway Man," is quite perfect for any vegans because you will truly feel robbed of £14.

Somewhat dated decor and fixtures. Room in need of a refresh but clean & tidy. Everything wired in so only one double socket for recharging phones etc (one had kettle plugged in and it was some distance from the bed). Room on small but typical in this price range. No chairs but stool with desk. I couldn't feel the mattress springs but could definitely hear them! Slept normally though. Bathroom best described as compact and required some agility if you wanted to shut the door. Shower, no bath but 5 stars for the shower: roomy and invigorating. Tea/coffee/milk provided. Small TV, didn't use. Free WiFi, didn't use. Pub & restaurant shut when we arrived, but friendly reception suggested a couple of delivery options. Some road noise from nearby A37. Overall 3 stars, which means it met all our requirements for a one night stopover. We paid £33 pppn so good value (no breakfast)
