Situated under the eastern ridge of the Black Mountains, close to the border with Wales, the Carpenters Arms has been in the same family for generations. The three hundred year old pub is now run by Vera Watkins.
A warm welcome is extended to customers from Vera, her family and staff. The pub remains as it was over a century ago, with a cosy bar which is well stocked with a selection of real ales and an extensive choice of local ciders from both sides of the border. The area is popular with holiday makers and so families, cyclists and walkers are all equally made to feel at home. The pub also attracts many people from the area, who return time and time again to sample the home cooking and to enjoy a fireside chat with Vera.
Would highly recommend. Was a very homely pub, we went for lunch and were greeted by a lovely lady who served us generous portions. Gave a 4 star for food since the steak was more of a well done to a medium which we discussed in-depth preorder. But nothing to stop me going a second time, or you a first!
What an absolute delightful place. We were recommended here by the touring sit down the road. We had a wonderful warm welcome. Where nothing was to much trouble. The food was absolutely fabulous. A hidden little gem. Can't wait to visit again.
A great little country pub with good ales and ciders, and traditional food at very reasonable prices. Staff are really friendly and there is a great atmosphere. It's not large so booking on busy days is recommended. CASH ONLY
We needed somewhere to have a drink and possibly an evening meal. We found this pub close to the caravan site we were staying at. We were welcomed warmly and even though they were very busy with a big group they accommodated us an our Golden Retriever, great service, advice on the menu which was comprehensive. A very small, quait pub - they don't make them like this anymore!! The food was fabulous as was the service and staff - so much so we are going back for Sunday Lunch!
