I don’t know what has happened but our Sunday lunch at 5 today was the worst ever. The beef full of fat , the veg especially the parsnip was virtually raw. We had just finished our food when our drinks finally arrived. Safe to say we will be looking for a new venue from now on. There was hardly any customers in so no idea why the drinks would have taken so long to come. £40.00 wasted 😡

My family are from the area and this weekend during a family gathering, I visited Thorpe Thewles for the first time. My great grand parents used to own the sweet shop and the old (now demolished) filling station across the road. After being told about the Hamilton Russell Arms from my grandfather many times. I’m glad I was able to visit this pub. The atmosphere was excellent and the food exquisite. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to head back to my roots and I will definitely be back.

We booked in for a family meal of 6 on a Saturday night in September 2023. The place is lovely and was buzzing at about 7pm. The food was really nice and the portion size was good. We have a nice comfortable night, the only criticism I have is that we booked the table for 7:30 and it took one of the party to catch the eye of a server some 40 minutes later to ask if our food orders could be taken. The order was then taken within 5 minutes and food was on the table quickly after that. Not once we’re we asked if we needed any drink refills and we ended up having to go to the bar ourselves??? The service really let this place down as the vibe of the place is great and the food amazing. It seemed like the manager had taken the night off and the staff had no urgency and didn’t really care. Quite a lot of staff just talking around the bar. The place cleared incredibly quickly and was empty by 9:30 which was a surprise. We waited far too long to be served, we could have spent a load more money on drinks but ended up only having two drinks each all night, Shame. It had been 10 years since we had been here previously and probably won’t return any time soon due to the nil service. Call me old fashioned but when you go out you want to be looked after.

Visited to celebrate a new job 😊. Lovely pub restaurant, been a few times. Olde world style pub, plenty of eating areas inside and out. Staff great, food gorgeous, good quality and home made chips a bonus, main meals good portion sizes. Not bad prices compared to other eateries around the area. Only downside was table, facing a wall next to cellar door. Would still recommend and visit again.

The service was excellent, the young man who waited on us was attentive even whilst busy. I ordered the beef brisket with bruschetta starter and the missus ordered the vegetarian salt and pepper Halloumi starter and the vegetarian stir fry with quorn. I was pretty disappointed with my meal, the Yorkshire pudding you could tell was probably cooked hours ago and was dry the beef wasn’t what I’d call traditional brisket it was quite overly chewy and sliced rather than diced mash was nice but the carrots and parsnips tasted a bit odd, roasties were quite tough too. Bruschetta was nice but the bread wasn’t quite crunchy enough. I didn’t feel my meal was worth it purely because of the quality and really not what I was expecting, the gravy was also very bland. The stir fry was nice but slightly gritty, the halloumi starter was really nice and well prepared, chip’s portion was fair and they were decent. A good pint 🍺 drinks prices are fair but sides seem expensive £2 for a blob of coleslaw seems excessive. Venue was good and is clean, tidy a presentable with good parking and child friendly and there is outside seating with separate smoking area. Overall it was good but not exceptional theres many better eateries nearby.
