The Edinburgh Castle pub has stood in Ancoats since 1811, in the heart of Britain's first industrial suburb.
Recently re-opened the doors to continue to serve the residents of Ancoats with exceptional food & drink – from classic, considered dishes to great beers & a generous whiskey selection downstairs in the pub.
Now that's what I call a Sunday lunch! The food was absolutely delicious (you have to get the cauliflower cheese with it - it was amazing!). The atmosphere is lovely, homely pub vibes, and the service was very attentive. I'll definitely be going back l
Making my first visit since 1974 when this was a bleak and dodgy area north of the city centre and the pub was a back street local. To be fair the pub was shut for decades and Ancoats is a rapidly developing trendy area with lots of new places to eat and drink. Three real ales so Boothroyd had a Buxton bitter. Very good. Lovely pub. The upstairs is a dining area. The ground rooms for drinks. Will be back..I hope. Card only which annoys me but told they have been robbed three times so cashless to deter the scumbags.
Definitely the best pie I've ever had in my life - incredible! The rest of the menu also seemed interesting and the other items we ordered were well made, although the partridge was a bit of a tricky one to eat/share.
A hidden gem . The tastiest food I’ve had . Beautiful selection of local selected produce. Cooked with care and love .. the attention shows in the taste . Highly recommended
All the dishes I had were amazing. The menu is seasonal , using local produce. Loved the asparagus dish, the tomato salad and the charred aubergine. They also cook proteins to perfection ! I wish every gastro pub would try to serve that top quality food. Reasonable prices. Just go!
