This Grade II listed free house reopened in 2005 after 16 years in co-operation with English Heritage with particular attention to the fine and unusual ceiling. The central bar serves up to nine ever changing real ales with an emphasis on local independent brewers. There is a large drinking area in front of the bar along with a small vault and a snug at the rear. The pub itself dates from around 1800 and was quite prosperous due to its junction location and proximity to the nearby Smithfield Markets. There is no hot food but locally produced pork pies are available. North Manchester CAMRA branch 'Pub of the Year 2015'.

Stunning building and great real ale bar. I spent most of the time enjoying the architecture of the ceilings. Love the repurpose of this. Retaining features and turning it into a really really nice venue
Probably the best pub in the city centre. Lovely selection of craft and real ales from independent breweries in a beautifully restored historic pub with a little back room with a real log fire. Usually playing quality 2000s indie bangers but at a volume where you can actually hold a conversation with your mates. Friendly staff too. Couldn’t ask for more really especially given most city centre pubs are awful places. Not sure if they serve food or not.
Fantastic pub with a great selection of ales. Really funky interior and always such a nice atmosphere. Dogs are allowed in too. Highly recommend.
Amazing pub in Manchester with a huge selection of awesome at a decent price. Bar staff are great the pub is old and had a lovely look. Definitely gi if you like ale.
