Built on a site of much historic importance, The Cheshire Cat is said to sit on the grounds of a battle fought between the Cavaliers and Roundheads.
Originally constructed in 1801, the building was seconded by the government as an administration office in World War II, it was left derelict until 1970 before being beautifully restored to reflect its long and interesting heritage.

Very well set out place with food and rooms. Didn't have a beer but a small selection of real ales in a free house. Coffee was very nice, very smooth. This would be a handy place to stop if cycling or walking on the canal although there is a Costa towards Chester where prices are probably similar. It does allow dogs which is handy if you're a dog owner but we found the frequent dogs greeting new dogs took away from the atmosphere thus my lower atmosphere score but if you know beforehand you take your choice. I'd have a dog free zone as it's a large place but I'll leave that up to these type of places to consider. Service was very quick and the food was excellent. We had the steak sandwich and chips which was excellent, very tender steak on a very fresh ciabbata and chunky chips.
Walked passed the canal on Xmas day and popped in for quick drinks (good was booked long time in advance) Beautiful setting and pub. Large parking space. Warm, very welcoming (dog friendly).
Beautiful big restaurant/pub. All the food was amazing, all came out together but service was very slow sadly 🐌. Great atmosphere, dog friendly too. Disabled toilets could do with a refurb/clean though, very tatty!
Great food, lots of choice, service was good, although we received our food after people on the next table who ordered after us. Reasonable price and well done out inside. Could have been better if the fires were lit as it was a bit chilly. Lots of parking and easy access.
Really great. We'd booked breakfast in advance as we were arriving by canalboat but we were very late. Even though it was 2 minutes before closing they rustled up 7 epic Full English breakfasts and really looked after us. Great setting as well and lots of room to sit either indoors or outdoors.
