Stayed in one of the rooms 2 nights and dined in the restaurant once. The stay: we booked in for 2 nights in an "external dog-friendly room" as we brought our dog. Once we arrived, we didn't get a particularly warm reception, the staff were polite enough but a smile was obviously expecting too much. The staff member did show us to our room thankfully as we would never have found it as the outside area leading to it was not lit at all. We eventually found the switch for an outside light, otherwise making your way to and from the room was quite unsafe. The room itself was nice, with a good sized bed and a modern bathroom. We were taken quite aback by the fact that the room was full of signs advising that the bed sheets, if dirty, would have been cause for extra charges since the pet fee wouldn't cover it (what does it cover then?). There was no indication of how dirty the sheets would have needed to be or how much the charge was leaving such info to our imagination. After the first night, we left the do not disturb sign on to indicate we did not need our room serviced, however when we returned later in the day we found that our room had been entered anyway which we found quite odd. We never felt at ease while staying or that the room was dog friendly (maybe more dog-accepting?) therefore before staying the second night we decided to return home. The restaurant: lovely food and drinks, nice cozy atmosphere with enough room around us to not feel crowded. Prices were fair considering the food was high quality and service was polite and speedy.
Good food and drink. Walked here from just beyond masons arms. Masons used to be superior to Brown Horse for food, however this has now changed. If you want good food/atmosphere and excellent service, come here. If you want amazing views and a great drink, go to Masons Arms.
Absolutely fantastic food, very high quality stuff. Didn't look like massive portions, but I still left stuffed, so go figure. Great ales on tap too. I will be returning. Didn't stay so can't comment on the rooms.
After a break from holidaying in the Lakes, this Inn was new to us and a great find. Booked in advance, the staff were both polite and friendly. We sat in the dog friendly bar area and the place has a nice feeling. Food we both chose was very good and when next back in the lakes, we will def visit again.
One of the best chicken burgers I’ve ever had! My husband had the fish pie and said it was the best food he has had in a while. The staff are absolutely amazing - we made a reservation for 7:45pm but due to unforeseen circumstances we ended up being very late. We arrived and they were so kind and understanding and still accepted us. If I ever come back to Lake District this will be my first stop for sure 😉👌
