The hotel was rated as a 3 star hotel. So I have rated it on that premise and not as if it was a 5 star. The food was excellent, Breakfast came with the nights lodging cost and was as good as any restaurant! We stayed 2 nights while looking for a house in the surrounding areas. The bar was a bit loud Friday night but it was Robbie Burns weekend. The locals were very friendly as well as was the staff. Would be a good place to stay if you are traveling about for vacation it 25 minutes from both Dumfries and Kirkcudbright and 12 minutes from Castle Douglas. Would say it might have been a distractor if we would have wanted to go to bed early Friday night seeing how loud the bar was and our room was right over the top of it . Instead we went down to the pub and had a great time with the locals till the pub closed at 12pm. The rooms might be considered a bit hot for those that are from the area but for one coming from Texas it was quit cozy. So in short it is the Best 3 star hotel that I have ever stayed in!!

Family get together, table was booked for 6pm. We all arrived early, had a nice warm welcome from Alexander who kindly asked if we would all like a drink and asked how we were all doing, this was a nice touch, felt very home from home. The bar area was quite busy and staff still took plenty of time, must say excellent customer service. The bar has recently gone through a refurbishment, it’s got such a nice atmosphere. The bar had a mixed range of age groups so everyone fitted in. There was live entertainment on later on tonight, “Lee’s hits through the decades” we would’ve stayed for the entertainment if we could. It’s such a busy time of year for everyone. David greeted us and asked if we were ready for our table in the restaurant, he showed us to the table, and asked if we would like more refreshments whilst handing us the menus. We were spoilt with plenty of choice, Christmas menus on 🎅, fantastic specials and of course the usual menu ;full of soo many choices. The restaurant is a place to come to chill out whilst eating meal, has stunning views over looking the burn running through Dalbeattie and of course the beautiful Christmas lights in the town. Over the other side of the restaurant is the semi open plan kitchen where the chefs are hard at work preparing all the delicious home cooked meals. Glen sure knows how to create delicious food. David came for our orders and answered all the questions we had relating to the food as we didn’t know what some of the food consisted off, it’s safe to say every customers needs are catered for. I ordered the Christmas’s street food, oh my goodness it was soo good, it consisted of roast turkey on a bed of thin chips, cheese, pigs n blankets, stuffing, gravy, Yorkshire pudding, glazed parsnip and sprouts. If this could be the traditional dinner on Christmas Day then I’d be up for that !! Others in the family had the traditional Christmas dinner, steak pie and gammon steak, my step dad said “ it’s the best gammon steak he’s had locally for a long time” and he will be back to the Birchtree soon for more!! The service was very efficient and food came fairly quick, it was nice to be asked if we would like any extras with the meal as it makes all the difference, David fully made sure the evening was relaxed and we were all comfortable as well as having a good time. The mains were finished, all clean plates, the portions are very generous,at one point I thought I’ve had enough but the food was too good to leave. There were several desserts available, we chose the salted Carmel profiteroles Coated in chocolate and we also chose toffee Bailey’s cheesecake, the deserts were of a very high standard and 5 star presentation. The food was all finished and out the way, the owner Robbie had a chat with us asking if we enjoyed and how things were, It’s fare to say it won’t be long till we are back. Well done all the staff mentioned. You sure know how to put a good night on. #local#family friendly# excellent service#amazing food

Once again a fabulous stay in this great pub in Dalbeattie. Andrew and his staff go the extra mile to make sure that your stay with them is one that you will remember The food is exceptional and the friendly bar staff make it a great night if you choose to eat in the bar rather than the restaurant. The rooms are exceptional and are all named after local areas such as Sweetheart Abbey The Quarryman and Solway coast. If you are ever in this area this is most definitely the place to stay.

Stayed here for four nights with my husband. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only gripe was the fans outside the building beside our room which started at 7.30 in the morning until 8pm. Tea, coffee, etc was always topped up for us whilst we were out. Breakfast was great and the guys in the kitchen were excellent.

This establishment is now one of my favourites in the UK. All staff are lovely, very friendly and pleasant. Rooms are clean, comfortable and well serviced. Food is amazing, great menu choice and breakfast will sort you for the day. Each time I've stayed I've been a walk in at time of stay and its never been a problem. Highly recommend if you're in the area for rooms, food or a friendly beer.
