One of the best pubs for many miles. They really look after the ale well. Superb enclosed floral garden, log fires in winter. Aunt Sally league, informal folk music sessions in back room once a month. Dog friendly with pub Husky. Snacky food at weekends.

We just love this pub. By far the best beers in the area. The hosts are brilliant. So friendly and accommodating. .

Great atmosphere, friendly staff. The real ale lived upto its very good reputation. Absolutely charming pub dog.

What do you look for in a pub? If it's loud music, pool tables or electronic gaming machines this is definitely not for you. What about the food? Looking for gourmet meals with 'jus' ? again try elsewhere . I like a pub where you are just as likely to hear folk music as any other type (on our visit we heard all sorts from folk to hard rock but it was never imposing ). I mentioned the food, obviously here it comes second to the wet bar sales but that doesn't mean that it's of an inferior quality. No, the menu isn't 4 pages long, the whole thing fits on one side of A4 paper, but it is varied and covers a wide range of tastes. The other thing about the menu is, at the time of writing, nothing is more than a tenner. This does mean, of course, that certain more expensive meats, for example steak, and fancy items are absent. Having said that, the food is excellent quality, not mass produced and locally sourced whenever possible. The mains are large enough to satisfy the average appetite but, should you prefer larger portions there are extras, starters and sweets available (you still get change from £20 if you go for 3 standard courses ) all of which are of a high standard. Enough said about the food. What about the accommodation? 2 guest rooms, 1 twin (en suite i believe )and 1 family room that is definitely en suite (1 double bed, 1 single and a further fold down single ) for 2 guests in the family room it comes in at £85 per night which includes breakfast and the usual basic provisions (tea/coffee, tv, etc. ) As I have mentioned, here it's all about the wet sales, predominantly the range of cask ales 8 handpumps all in use 5 dispensing the Hook Norton range from light to dark 1 guest ale and 2 real ciders. Not into cask? There is plenty of other choice and all kept extremely well as the award certificates that festoon the walls can testify. CAMRA pub of the year runners up for 2 years running and shortlisted for this year, just awaiting the imminent decision as I write, and all achieved in the approximately 3 years since taking on the pub (their 1st I believe ). Quite an achievement there for Chris and Sandra the excellent hosts for whom nothing seemed to be too much trouble. What's the pub like? The Bell dates back to the 1700's and, kind of, gives the impression that very little has changed , with its low doorways (i'm only 5'8 and I had to duck through one of them ), open fires, obvious associations with the local morris dance sides and folk nights. Conversation is paramount and with the friendly, welcoming staff and regulars even as newcomers we didn't feel left out. So, who is welcome? That's easy, just about everyone, walkers, cyclists, children, dogs even the aforementioned folk singers and morris dancers! So, basically any honest friendly people who just want a bit of peace in their lives.
