This pub is part of the Xscape retail/entertainment complex built on the site of Glasshoughton Colliery and Coking Works. The pub takes its name from the winter coal seam worked from the late 1930s until 1969.

Very busy! We had to wait for a rather large party of diners to finish wishing each other a merry xmas etc to get a table, and they'd left the tables in a right mess, so we had to clear a table for ourselves and stack them all on a smaller unused table nearby. Once we were seated and looking at the menu, we were impressed by the menu choices on offer, with something for all of our appetites. I placed the order for all of us on the app' and had to double check that I hadn't missed anyone off as the bill only came to £66 for a party of 6 - drinks included! Food arrived pretty quick and all the portion sizes were good and food was very tasty! It's been a while since I've been to a Spoons, I'd forgotten what great value they offer!
Not a bad place really... very busy on Saturday, but service was fairly quick. Ordered dinner on their app, which was relatively straightforward. I ordered the mixed grill, but notes there was no option to order the steak rare/medium. When it arrived, it became apparent that it was only a little minute steak in any case, so probably not possible to grill to preference? Otherwise it was okay.
Typical Wetherspoons, which is a good thing. Service was perfect. Ordered on the app and food delivered in a few minutes. The place was clean and tidy. Food options were plentiful. And the food was excellent for the price. In other words, it was exactly what I expected from a Wetherspoons, and I was not disappointed. The food was good, the service was fast, and the place was clean. I could have asked for nothing more. Overall, I had a great experience at Wetherspoons. It's not the most glamorous pub chain, but it's always reliable and affordable.
Been here a couple of times now. We like to come here for food before we go bowling. Like all the weatherspoons it's cheap food but good. I tend to go for the cocktail pitchers they have quite a variety of these and the cost is reasonable too. Nice and friendly atmosphere here. Would recommend.
