Having existed for over 150 years, The White Lion was licensed in 1856 by Mr James Rogers - look out for his tankard in the pub restaurant to this day. The renowned 19th Century murderer Charles Peace was said to have kept the horse he used to escape on in the inn's stables, before being caught and executed in 1879.
