Excellent Sunday roast. Would certainly recommend to everyone who enjoys a traditional Sunday roast.
Our group of 8 rowdy swimming pals went to the Volly for their Xmas menu... I've always thought of this as a folk festival/ music/ beer drinkers pub (which is is and a very good one) so was intrigued to try the food. Absolutely bloody brilliant. Starter of Confit Shallots and Goats Cheese mouse on a homemade blini was stunning. My roast turkey came moist and fresh, with the kind of Yorkshire pudding both soft to squeeze and crispy to bite into. One of the best pub roasts i've ever had. Sharp as a knife lemon posset for pud. My pals cheese board looked like a board for 2! Beautiful petit fours and strawberries as well. The service was warm, friendly and totally amenable to folks making a few last minute changes, once the mains were on the table offers of anything extra were made. Wines were bold and reasonably priced. Genuinely very impressed with this place. Staff seemed to be enjoying their work, we had a marvellous evening. (Apologies if we were a bit rowdy! LOL)
Superb experience at the Volunteer Inn. The quality is astounding and is not your simple pub grub. A real credit to Matt, Lyndsay and the team. If you are in the Sidmouth area, it is a must visit for food & drink.
This place has changed so much recently and massively for the better. Great bar team that are knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. The menu is the biggest change - its amazing. Definitely not the usual pub grub fare. Outside space is lovely too. Highly recommended
We visited back in May this year and looked forward to visiting again. We were not disappointed. The menu is varied and very interesting for a pub and changes every week. We visited three times in a week on this stay in Sidmouth. We even walked down the hill in the rain on our last night so as not to miss this weeks delights. Follow The Volley on FB for the new menus published every Tue or Wednesday. Apart from the food, the other main thing to share is about the great staff. They have a natural ability to make you feel at home and you are treated like a regular customer throughout. They all have personality. Big thanks to them all.
Sorry, we don't have any current events or offers for this pub.

Our menu changes on a weekly basis unlike any other venue in the town, we pride ourselves on providing a very good level of pub food in a setting where people feel just as comfortable having a drink as much as eating.
We are a pub that serves food not a restaurant that sells drinks there’s a big difference in our opinion and the local community spirit alongside seasonal visitors makes this a great pub to enjoy a few drinks and maybe take in some food.
Our Sunday roast is amongst the best locally with our signature slow roast brisket taking centre stage along side a selection of other meat and veggie alternatives and 10 different vegetables with our Sunday fayre.
Check out The Volley Facebook page for this weeks menu and reviews of our little pub by the bus stop.
