This place was huge. Great walk around it and a jacobean mansion as well. The gardens are beautiful
Spent a lovely 4-5 hours here with two 10 year olds. Plenty to do, see & explore. The cafe down at the smaller entrance was a bit chaotic so will be bringing pack ups next time
Everyone needs to go here at least once in their lifetime! It is beautiful, tranquil and interesting. We visit monthly as we live nearby. Entrance is included in National Trust membership. On Saturdays in October you can visit in the dark and experience the amazing abbey by floodlight. You can easily spend a whole day here. Dogs are allowed. There is an on site cafe and gift shop. Lots of photo opportunities. Lots of places for a picnic and bird watching. There is a weekly park run. Extensive children’s play area.
Expensive (£45 for 2 adults and 1child), but impressive. Very nice grounds, interesting things to see, and the huge abbey ruins. Lacks a museum with plenty of info and history: the visitor centre is very large but really only a shop, tickets, and toilets. Coverage of the history and background in detail would have been appreciated. Unlikely to revisit due to high entry fee.
A place in history that gives you the feeling your still in the dark ages. Amazing architecture, really makes you want to make a time machine and kick king Henry's back side for damages to such a beautiful place.
