I used to go there when it first opened, good to see it hasn't been changed into a 90's bar or something it isn't. Still has the big stairs in the middle had some great times. Great place to start your night of afternoon. Staff are polite and professional good choice of drinks. Nice big bar, nice ambiance and lighting, plenty of places to sit, and good place to watch sports plenty of screens. Only downside is the toilets are downstairs and when you're a bit older the spiral stairs are small especially when you've had a few. Apart from that I'd definitely recommend this place and will be going back. I've just been back and pleased to say it hasn't changed but unfortunately tonight was it's final night. Yes folks it's closing its doors for the last time, real shame and really really sad to see it go.
Didn't have food so can't say what ots like bit we went on a match day and we got served quickly and we also got a seat which is good
I've always loved this place... basically since it opened, no matter how many refurbishments it has, I still love to go! Drinks are bit expensive, but cocktails are bloody fantastic!!
Nice large pub with lots of TV screens to watch sports, 2 bar areas on the main level, seating area upstairs too, outside seating area at front of bar, good selection of drinks too
Ridiculous is an understatement. Absolutely disgusting, the hygiene was outrageous, I ordered a glass of wine and there was lipstick marks all around the glass, the pizza had a hair in it and the cutlery was dirty, most of the toilets were blocked and on top of all of this the wait time for the food was ridiculous, an hour for 1 pizza and 1 burger with chips. The food itself was subpar, absolutely not worth the price, honestly wished we went to McDonald's would have been more enjoyable. On top of this, the manager was acting very hostile, particularly to the young staff members, I caught one of them crying in the toilets after the manager shouted at her, felt so sorry for her honestly that was very inappropriate of the manager. Do not recommend save your money and your time.

City Tavern, established in 1923 in a historic Tudor façade building, was one of Newcastle’s most famous pubs. Since then it has undergone several name and style changes, until Spring 2014 when we brought it back to where it all began.
