About us

We are happy to be cooking up a storm in our outdoor kitchen for the time being whilst our main kitchen is out of action. Great ingredients cooked over an open fire.

Now open Thursday to Saturday every evening from 6pm and Sundays 12-3pm.

And we are happy to take private bookings for parties of 6 or more. We can tailor a menu to your requirements.

FRESH INGREDIENTS

The freshest of local ingredients from our suppliers here in South Devon.

Where better to enjoy our seafood, and everything else the South Hams had to offer.

Cooked by our wonderful French chef Dom.

MASTERING FOOD

Theres something special about stripping back cooking and keeping it simple.

Rather than offer an extensive menu we are offering a few dishes on the nights we doing food, cooked with love and passion over our wood and coal fires.

We also are back to serving the famous Tower roast on Sundays.

CHECK THE OPENING TIMES AND CALL IF UNSURE!!!! If it is open, you're in for a treat!!! Proper country pub with good if expensive (the chef is a genius tho so expect that on top of his excellency). Good beers and a nice atmosphere make for a once in a lifetime pub visit.

Lots of history entwined within and the team here seem to be doing all they can to run a somewhat unique offering in a unique location. Didn’t have a problem with reservations or being accommodated on a walk in basis. French chef producing great no fuss dishes! Wood fire roasted chicken, sea bream, pizza, octopus! Their garlic aioli - superb. So what if it takes some time at peak dinner time for food to come out! Enjoy the ambience and the venue - and a pint. Oh, and get the Provence Rose!

A shame. A mixture of potential and disappointment we left not wanting to return a 3rd time. Tried to book 4 times to no avail. Arrived to be treated with almost contempt at asking where we could sit. Fab location. Park outside of the village to avoid big problems. Bring bug repellant and tool kit for rotting tables if you intend on braving the back jungle. Lack of serviceable space outdoors. Derelict rear garden, dirty loos, unhelpful and confused staff, chef swearing at the chaos. Lost order tickets, 2 hour wait for food. Very very helpful and cheerful young kitchen assistant. A real asset to the business. Much of the food was observed as frozen supermarket food brought out from the back, heated on outdoor temporary though seemingly now permanent kitchen and presented as fresh meals. The pork which appeared fresh was however tasty. Beautiful spot but honestly not worth the hassle, wait or chaos in future.

Wow, just wow, a 13th century pub, with added character and probably the best Sunday lunch I've ever eaten out. It's truly the best, but beware, it's not for the faint hearted,it's a big portion! If I lived closer, it would be a regular haunt.

The food was amazing 👏 😍. Burger was delicious and juicy . 12 hours pulled pork was bang on. Chips were good not soggy. Chicken well cooked and well seasoned. Price wasn't too much for what we had . Over all a good evening with good food. Delicious and welcoming. Definitely coming back.
