About us

The Squinting Cat… you may wonder where the name comes from. Parts of the building date back to 1635 and rumour has it, at one point a witch inhabited the building who owned a one eyed cat. Hence the name!

The old coaching inn has been through many conversions to its present state, which is a family friendly, open plan restaurant.

The pub offers something for everyone, including our lovely beer garden, kids indoor and outdoor play areas and good quality food at a competitive price.

GO HOME HAPPY

We want you to have the best experience possible every time you visit a Fayre & Square so to make sure this happens every time we have put our Happiness Guarantee in place… if you are not entirely happy, let us know and we’ll put it right.

Our team are welcoming and friendly and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Despite having booked a table and a place in the Wacky Warehouse I was told, on arrival, there were no tables available. I then asked if I could sit at one in the bar area but that would mean my 4 year old was unable to go in the soft play. Luckily a table became available so we could then go in. I spent 5 minutes waiting to order food from the Wacky Warehouse area before going into the bar area to do so. The lady who was in the Wacky Warehouse part was helpful, when she was available, but she was clearly run off her feet as she was responsible for the whole area. The food was fine, no complaints at all, and the staff were friendly and happy to help. The toilets were unclean and there was no hand soap available in any of them, both adult toilets and children’s toilets. Only one toilet roll available in the adult toilet which was wet. It says on the wall the toilets are checked regularly but that clearly isn’t true. When leaving, at around 5pm, there were no lights in the car park so you couldn’t actually see where you were going. Not great when you have a young child and a mum with a walking stick. All in all, despite the pleasant staff, it felt run down and as though money was trying to be saved wherever possible. A shame as it’s a lovely building, in a nice setting. It could be so much better.

Booked a table, not really needed as it was lovely and quiet. Decided to have our first bar meal out since the pandemic began. Staff were friendly, approachable and relaxed. Atmosphere was a bit like a library but we needed the peace and quiet ❤️ We ordered hand battered fish and chips (with peas), and loaded steak sunday. Tasty, good portions +price. Even got to try a unique cider whilst I was there. Well worth the walk over, we will be back again.. Great to find a welcoming local for us 🥰 Update 👀 We are now regulars, loving each dish we get & I'm trying pale ales and IPA guest ales each time I'm in. Not had one reaction to any of the dishes which are milk free (really badly intolerant to dairy protein), so for me this place is heaven! Recent Update 2023 Still reaction free when having dishes, using my 20% off food discount is really easy. We struggle to go regularly due to my recent change in job, but hopefully this will change soon! Staff have changed but a few regular faces left. Nothing changed a lot, and service still really good!

Came for lunch today 24/09/23. It wasn’t too busy, a few cars in the carpark and many free tables inside. Lovely pub and very quiet area. Went to the bar to order food to over hear the bar man telling the customer in front it’s over a 45 min wait for food. Thats very poor and took the decision to go elsewhere. It’s a shame as I was looking forward to eating here.

It was amazing food and very well presented. The only thing is the place wasn't very well cleaned and tidy. There were very old vegetables and fries under our table and seemingly every other table. It also hadn't been wiped down between customers because there was remnants of salt on the table too. Staff didn't seem very eager to attend even though it was very quiet. We actually had to walk towards the bar to get some attention and fresh drinks. The food however, is amazing and everything was well presented with perfect flavours and extremely fair prices.
