We love this gift from nature’s larder, served with champagne and fine wines and wanted to share it with you, our fellow travellers. Our aim is to supply Scotland’s best seafood dining experience offering sustainable Scottish fish and seafood served with simplicity and style.
Our approach is simple really; we offer the finest ingredients, passionately prepared and expertly presented. When the sun shines our delicious seafood can be served outside on our shore-front terrace beside the Water of Leith, when it doesn’t our fabulous and atmospheric bar and restaurant awaits you.
Whether its a lunch or dinner your after, or luxuriating over our Fruits de Mer ‘Royale’ or Hot Shellfish Platter, or just enjoying a delicious glass of champagne, wine or cocktail in our fabulous bar – the Ship on the Shore offers informal, understated excellence.
We serve food all day, everyday, from our delicious menus from 11.30am onwards.

Good Seafood! I think it is the best one in Edinburgh! Paella and cold platter are my favorite ones! The waitresses and waiters are so helpful! The manager is so knowledgeable for wine recommendation! If you are in Edinburgh and want to have some seafood, this is the place to go for!
We turned up on 31st Dec around mid afternoon without a booking for a quick lite lunch. The restaurant was busy but they found a table for my son & I. My son ordered their steak sandwich which was fantastic, meat was perfect medium rare.
Great night with my lovely partner, really enjoyed the seafood platter, we ordered the £30 one which was still amazing. The pink grapefruit & Gin sorbet was great too. The staff and manager were nice and friendly to help. Beautiful and lovely place and I love to come back again
Seafood is good, but I personally prefer Fishers . We had the mussels, oyster pakora, smoked seafood platter and dessert ( love boat ). Nothing to complain about, the service was very good and the whiskeys ( lagavulin, Ardbeg, caol ila) that we tried were reasonably priced.
Everything tasted high quality. Wife got a ribeye, I got fish and chips, and we shared muscles. The atmosphere was very nostalgic. The Old Fashioned I ordered was good. I would have liked the option for some sauce of some kind with the fish and chips, but the fish was perfectly cooked.
