About us

We opened our first Taproom and Bottle Shop, Riverside Tap, in Dumfries in Spring 2020 followed by our Castle Douglas bottle shop, Galloway Tap, in December 2021.

We have also bought an old pub in Dumfries (The Royal Oak) which we plan to restore and create a microbrewery and event centre. The microbrewery will be used for innovative and experimental brewing, being made available at no cost to students and graduates of Heriot Watt brewing faculty.

Great new place, real range of beers, wines also. Friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff.

They don't do food. but if you ask nicely, they'll probably let you bring something in. The beers and ciders change regularly and are out of this world. If your taste goes beyond the everyday in style, music, and ambience, then this is the place for you. The staff are amazing.

We visited on 24th June 2023. I'm not really a beer drinker but my brother and husband are, and they were both really impressed and enjoyed a few different beers. The bar staff were lovely and let us take our time with trying samples before buying. I wasn't drinking alcohol and the lady behind the bar kindly talked me through some of the alcohol free options with as much care and attention as if I was buying alcohol which I really appreciated as I sometimes feel a bit out of place not drinking in places like this! The atmosphere here is informal and comfortable, very relaxed yet you feel like you're somewhere 'nice', we loved the background music and could have happily sat here all night. We are not local but were made to feel very welcome by the staff and the other customers. Toilets very clean. Can't think of any negatives at all! We'd planned to come back on our final night in Dumfries but it was closed, but we will definitely be back if we're in the area again.

Nice decor and range of previously unheard of ales and cider. We found it to be a bit pricey given that two drinks which were ⅔ pint each came in at £9 which in my book is even dearer than Edinburgh prices!

This is one of our favourite pubs in Dumfries which provides a great variety of craft beers from different countries. The decor and the environment are nice and cosy.
