A friendly place with a good range of local ales and quality meals. The waiting staff are excellent. We visit while staying at their campsite at the rear where there are glorious views of the countryside.
The worst stay we’ve ever had in our entire lives. Myself and my partner stayed here with our 4 month old son as we were attending a wedding around the corner. They left us with no hot water for the duration of the stay, so we couldn’t even bath our baby. And every time we complained they said it would be back on in an hour (this never happened). Breakfast was disgusting, and served with cereal that had expired (I took photos of this). A heavily pregnant woman was rushed off her feet and seemed to be the waitress, receptionist, and everything in between. We called for weeks after our stay to get a partial refund and to talk to the manager, and every time we had a different excuse, going as far to say the manager has just been rushed off to surgery to get us off the phone. Do not give these people your money and ruin your trip. Our friends stayed in a lovely place around the corner from this dump and had an amazing stay for the same price.
Booked a weekend at the campsite behind this pub for a wedding anniversary and booked a table in the pub for the Saturday evening. I've messaged the pub via the website and sent 3 emails enquiring about the Vegan options but had no reply. I can never understand if you have a business why you wouldn't reply to an email query. We will still be visiting and I will update my review after the weekend. Hopefully the owner/manager will see this review and reply to me Further to my review above, since our meal I can update my review. I was disappointed to only have a couple of vegan options for mains especially after sending a message via the website and 3x emails over a period of 7-10 days with no reply. I did receive a reply to my review (see below) where they inform me that emails are not checked daily 🤔 nor weekly it would seem. The meal was very nice but we were disappointed to see our mains being brought out about 10 mins after receiving our starters so we were still eating the starter. The waitress saw we were still eating but left the main meals on the table to go cold whilst we finished our starters. The mains should only be brought to the table after the starter plates have been cleared away and leaving at least 15 mins between courses. There was also only one vegan dessert available (sorbet) but I was hoping for something nicer.
A friendly a welcoming place. A good meal with a pleasant and timely service, friendly staff and food cooked to an excellent standard. Steak was cooked a bit more rare than I would normally like. That said the cut of meat was outstanding and there was nothing left. Top marks to the person who cooked it. Dog friendly which is rare these days and pleasant to take our little dog in with us. He enjoyed a bit of Steak too. A bit more sauce with the chicken was brought when asked. Nothing to complain about her. The beer was cold. The wine was pleasant.
Great place to camp - the heated towel rails saved us after arriving completely soaked on bikes. We were able to have a hot shower and dry everything out overnight. Nice hot food (especially the pie) and lively bar. Quiet night of sleep.
