The Noose and Monkey is one of Aberdeen’s most loved pubs; serving food, drink. Situated in the heart of the Rosemount area, right next to His Majesty’s Theatre, it’s a favourite destination for pre-show meals and drinks. The venue has been frequented by many famous stars performing at these shows including Jason Donavan, Paul O’Grady, Bella Emberg and most recently Elaine C Smith.
Established in 2000, The Noose and Monkey had previously been known as ‘My Fathers Moustache’ and ‘The Silver Slipper’. She was given it’s unusual name by it’s previous owner and licensee who originated from Hartlepool. The story goes that during during the Napoleonic Wars, fishermen from Hartlepool watched a French Warship founder off their coast. The only survivor was a monkey, dressed in French military uniform, presumably to amuse the officers on the ship. The fishermen assumed that this must be what Frenchmen looked like, and after a brief trial they summarily executed the poor monkey by hanging.

Been in for breakfast and for cocktails - both highly recommend! Staff are lovely, great service and nice atmosphere. Good if you just want a relaxed drink or meal but something just a tiny bit posh :)
Main food dishes are great. Ordered a side of toast with breakfast not so great, I think the waiting staff knew that as they avoided my table once they gave me the toast. However, I would definitely be back as the food is delicious.
Food rather average, service was good and atmosphere pleasant.
Made a booking for 1730 for 1.5 hours for food and drinks. The place is a ver nice atmosphere and great food. I had the salmon and prawn risotto, wife just ended up with an appetizer of nachos with cajun chicken, and my kid had a half portion of fish and chips as no actual kids menu, but will tailor a portion size for a child and charge a price for that portion which is very appreciated. My wife said the nachos were some of the best she has had, which is not what you'd expect to find in Scotland. They had lots of cheese and looked very good. The risotto was very good and was one of the several gluten free options on menu. The fish and chips for a half portion was still huge and looked very good. They also had a good drinks menu with some very nice scotches. Highly recommend if stop in Aberdeen or passing through and needing something to eat.
Nice vibe. Food flavours were good and it all seemed to be home made. I have given 4* as we both felt the need to add salt to it, which we don't normally do. Would definitely visit again. We had the ribeye risotto, smoked macaroni cheese and chicken strips. Sticky toffee pudding was great.
