The oldest gay pub in Leeds, the New Penny is one of the hottest places for alternative music. As well as host many different themed nights, they have also had the pleasure of having the infamous Lily Savage perform on stage.

At the bottom of Call Lane sits what is claimed to be the UK’s longest running gay venue, and the first gay venue to open outside of London. The New Penny, or the Hope and Anchor as it was first known in 1953, was a secretive place in bygone days, but thankfully in these more liberal times the New Penny is a proud and open gay pub which remains busy throughout the week.
