A mix of locals at the bar/seating area, and tourists dining. Probably best to book ahead, since seating is limited and there are not too many independent restaurants in the locale. Parking is opposite the Inn, with on road parking available. A little tight, but okay. Food portions are large, so value is good. Everything was tasty too. Vegetarian options were limited. The menu is available online.
Been twice had great time both visits and food was lovely ππ

The New Inn, in Cross, is a fantastic example of Ye Olde English Pub - quintessentially charming and choke full of historic character. Strategically located just off the A38, the New Inn stands as yet another quaint jewel on the string of beautiful hills known as the Mendips - one of Somerset's many Areas of Natural Beauty (AoB). On this occasion, a gloriously sunny day, my daughter and I stopped by for some lunch. We were greeted warmly and personably by staff. We hadn't made a reservation, regardless, we were accommodated at a lovely bay windowed table. The menu, updated weekly, was an eclectic mix of meals all made with locally sourced ingredients. Our mains, lasagne and a revelationary vegetarian curry, were stellar. Our dessert, a very posh bread pudding was, in a word, sublime. We retired, with a couple of pints, to the rear garden and enjoyed the sites, the suds, and the sun. So, whether you're on route somewhere or you've chosen the Mendips as your destination, The New Inn is a great watering hole. With paths up into the hills and along the famous Strawberry Line, you're not short of things to do. Kids? They will love the play area out back. Just remember to book ahead, it can get busy on the weekends. If you haven't booked, don't let that put you off, head on over - they will gladly do their best to accommodate you. Here's hoping you enjoy your next outing there. Let me know when you do. ππ€ππ
Lovely country pub, with friendly staff, nice beer garden with lovely views (sun trap!) and top notch food! The kids (4 & 6yrs) loved the outside play area, itβs worth noting that they are quite a few steps up to the garden and it is quite steep on the grass play area. The food was lovely, freshly cooked and so tasty. Highly recommend the chicken breast with bacon, chive mash and Boursin cheesy sauce! The chips were also super tasty and were a bit like roast potato chips (stole some of the kids π). The car park isnβt very big but we managed to get parked ok on the road a little bit further down in the village. We will definitely visit again.
