Went here for lunch during the Christmas period and, understandably it was very busy. We had reserved a table. We waited a long time for food and when it came it was rather unimpressive. I had a tuna toasty which I could have made at home of the same quality but for much cheaper. The chips were very nice and well-seasoned. The staff were pleasant and the decor is very nice.

A lovely place with nice service & ambience, good coffee and a well thought out menu.

Came in for breakfast, with my son on Monday morning. Only one other person in. We asked about having breakfast, informed just take a seat, and she would fetch the menu over. 8 minutes passed before the menu came over. I was surprised that a cup of Yorkshire tea, in fact, all teas were overpriced above a coffee, at £3.10 and a coffee under the £3. Also surprised a hot beverage was a hot drink included in the £10.95 full breakfast, to which I ordered eventually. Without mushrooms as I don't like them, it seemed a waste to cook something I wouldn't eat. I asked for extra hash brown instead. My son has eggs my way - scrambled with sausage. The 2 plates finally came out 24 minutes after we ordered. I know food cooked fresh takes time, but this was ridiculous. Debated on leaving. We were the only 2 in that ordered food! The plates were cold when that came out, and mine also came out with mushrooms on and the extra hash brown. I'm not sure how one order in the kitchen could have caused such a lengthy time to cook and also still come out wrong. Don't get me wrong, the food tasted nice when it inevitably arrived. My son, on the other hand, was baffled as to why he had an unnecessary balsamic Zigzag tainting the muffins on the plate and red powder decorating it. So he used his napkin to wipe it off. Staff were polite and just seemed to be slow on this particular morning for some reason. The back door was open, so the cafe felt chilly, perhaps with more people in, and the door shut would have been better. The ambience had character just no atmosphere. Would I eat here again. Possibly, food was nice unfortunately a lengthy time for service, cold plates, and chilly dining room would see me try elsewhere first.

Not sure if we went on a bad day- but the food was really awful. The presentation of the food was great but it was very, very bland. Had to add lots of salt and pepper and still did not help. Saw the chef fill the saucepan with boiling water from the coffee machine. Had the carbonara, the pasta was boiled for so long it was very mushy and the sauce was very thin. The sauce a cheese pull but there was no taste whatsoever of cheese… Fajitas were nice but for nearly £17, it was not worth it either. Never had carrots in a fajita. We didn’t feel comfortable mentioning the food to the waitress as she was very polite and we just wanted to leave. The special of the day was fish, tasted frozen and bland. The sauce added no additional flavour to it. Would not be going back to this area for food in the future, really disappointing

My 3rd time at The New Derwent Bistro. Every visit has been 5☆ Today we had the afternoon tea. Wow, from the presentation to the taste to the quality of food amazing. Such a warm welcome, beautiful table set up ready for us (we pre booked) to service just excellent. Staff are attentive, the whole area lovely and clean and such a great price. I'll 100% be back.
