Holder of the Scottish Borders Eating Out Awards’ ‘Best Newcomer 2008’ and ‘Best Informal Lunch 2008’ accolades, Marmions is one of the Scottish Borders’ favourite places to eat, drink and relax – open for lunch, dinner or simply for coffee.
The evening à la carte menu offers a refreshingly unfussy selection of modern European dishes, inspired by local produce and flavours. Crab cakes served with cucumber and mint raita provides a light, fresh starter, while the seared pigeon breast with red onion, haggis and cumberland sauce is a rich in flavour and texture. Simple combinations enhance quality flavours on the main course menu. Baked fillet of cod sits aside sweet chilli tiger prawns served with new potatoes and rocket salad; while venison steak is partnered with a wild mushroom duxelle served with creamed parsnips and a redcurrant jus. Also no Scottish menu would be complete without steak, and Marmions offers you a 10oz sirloin, chargrilled and served with onion, mushroom, tomato and chunky chips. If you find you still have room try the sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream or, if your tooth isn’t so sweet, try the selection of Scottish cheeses served with oatcakes.
Marmions is open from 9am for breakfast with coffees served all day. Lunch is served between 12 noon and 0.00pm with a mouthwatering choice of open sandwiches and ciabattas, baked potatoes and a seasonal 3 course menu. See the menu section for samples of all the Marmions menus on offer throughout the day and make your reservation soon to experience the wonderful local flavours for yourself.
I have been going here for years. It's always a treat. Helpful, polite staff. Wonderful menu and great Borders Style ( large) portions. Always cosy and welcoming. Local art gallery on the walls very tempting all round. 💜
Lovely sea bass fillets on a perfectly cooked risotto.
This is a little gem of a place. Friendly and helpful staff. Not as extensive a menu as some off the so-called 'up market' alternatives in Melrose. However, the food is very tasty, well prepared and presented with generous portions, and very reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit for a delicious evening meal.
We had lunch & dinner here today. Lovely staff. The food was really nice. Apologies to the chef for not finishing my tagliatelle but although it was very tasty there was just too much for me. My husband's lamb chops & accompanying vegetables were amazing. Great 80's background music too 😊
Perfect service, nice environment with paintings & quiet nice music. Really enjoyed the food. Everything we ordered was wonderful. My favourite - the delicious lamb meatballs turkish style inside the wrap.
