About us

Set in an elevated position within the Magazines Conservation Area, the Magazine Hotel boasts a unique viewpoint of the River Mersey and New Brighton promenade, which allows day trippers and walkers to take full advantage of all that the pub has to offer. Set within a quiet residential area, there is a strong community feel which extends into the overall ambience of the pub and allows customers old and new to feel very much at home. With its extensive beer garden offering plenty of seating areas in which to enjoy the stunning views, it is a literal hotspot on a warm summer’s day. Situated to the rear of the pub beer garden is the Magazine Bowling Club, first established in 1853 which has always maintained a strong affiliation with the pub.

The Magazine Hotel is one of the oldest pubs on the Wirral, with its building dating back to 1759, and still maintains much of its original character and charm. With our unique snugs and open fireplace, we always offer a warm welcome to our many customers. We are one of only a handful of pubs in the area still serving draught Bass, which attracts customers from near and far. With the introduction of guest ales in recent years, here at The Mags we are proud to support our local breweries, one of which Brimstage Brewings Trappers Hat is building a reputation to rival Bass, and has proven to be so popular with our customers, we now have it as a permanent fixture on our bar. Check out our drinks section of our website to see our current cask conditioned ales as well as those that are coming next. Please check this regularly as it can change on a daily basis. We are a member of Cask Marque, a multi award winning Wirral Camra pub and a regular in the annual good beer guide. You can also follow us on untappd.com to keep an eye on what beers are available.

Great CAMRA pub. Very dog-friendly, and a super quaint interior. Really good range of beer and cider, and in a fab location too - you can get lovely views of Liverpool on a clear day.

We call in this pub when my Son is home for a visit and we go for a walk in New Brighton. Food is always good, my Son's steak cooked perfectly, my scouse lovely with really nice bread, chips home made and salad garnish always fresh. Staff always pleasant and polite

I've walked past this pub on many occasion, from walking along the New Brighton promenade, you can gaze up and see this Pub, anyway we decided to go in and see what the fuss was about, well as soon as we entered the door, Lady approaches us and no sooner as we opened our mouths we was seated in the back room away from the hussle and bussel,my wife ordered the steak with pepper corn sauce,I ordered the homemade lasagne and chips, my wife said it was the best Pepper corn sauce she had encountered, and as for me ,it was definitely a real reminder of home made cooking, all in all am definitely coming back here and would happily recommend a visit 👌

We didn't eat, so our 5 stars are based solely on the quality of the food we saw going out. The Magazine is famous for being a 'Bass' 🔺️pub and it certainly didn't disappoint. As designated driver, I could only have the one, but er indoors consumed my share as well. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and we'll certainly be going back, quite probably with a bunch of other members of The Honourable Order of Bass Drinkers.

Lovely old school pub off the front in New Brighton.. It's near a lovely park too. Friendly service and a lovely pint. Cask ales are served.. Including guest ales. Well kept and refreshing ale.. Hosts its own beer festival and in the good beer guide. Also won a number of awards. It has a variety of rooms and also dartboard which is always a bonus!! Popped in for one on a bike ride... Highly recommended 🚲 🍻 ☀ 🎯 ⛴
