A warm, welcome awaits you at The Barbon Inn - a family run, traditional 17th century Coaching Inn
he Barbon Inn and Restaurant near Kirkby Lonsdale has been around since the 1650s and started life as a farmhouse. Situated in the peaceful and tranquil village of Barbon, this country inn offers old world elegance in its accommodation restaurant and pub. The Barbon serves traditional English cuisine with a modern twist. Specialty dishes using local produce with choices like confit duck leg served with dauphinoise potatoes, sautÃÂéed leeks and a rich blackberry sauce; menu choices change with the seasons. The inn has an excellent wine list which has been a labour of love for one of the owners, and she will help you select from the connoisseurs list. The Barbon Inn has 10 bedrooms one with a four-poster bed. It's located halfway between the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park which makes it the perfect base for exploring both. The pastoral feel is added to by a local racetrack that holds the Barbon Hill Climb. This spring my sister and I decided to open up the fires and burn logs; this creates an atmosphere that only real log fires give and this is only possible because of the commitment of my brother-in-law Peter; who works endlessly chopping logs and kindling. Logs Poem LOGS Oaken logs if dry and old Keep away the winters cold. Beechwood fires burn bright and clear If the logs are kept a year. Birch and fir logs burn too fast Blaze up bright but do not last. But, Ash wood wet, or Ash wood dry; A King to warm his slippers by. Elm wood burns like graveyard mould Even the very flames are cold! Poplar gives a bitter smoke, Fills your eyes and makes you choke! Chestnut's only good they say If for years it's stored away. But Ash wood green or Ash wood brown Is fit for a Queen with a golden crown. Apple wood will scent the room; Pear wood smells as flowers in bloom. It is by the Irish said, Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread. But Ash logs, all smooth and grey, Burn them green or old; Buy up all that come your way, They're worth their weight in gold.
We live locally and called in just over a week ago - when it was freezing outside. We were greeted with a warm & friendly welcome, a roaring fire and a cosy bar serving lots of great drinks. What more can you ask for from a lovely country pub. We'll be back soon.🍺
A lovely tradition pub, very friendly and welcoming. Lovely food we had a great Sunday afternoon sitting by the fire. Donna the bar lady was really great and made a fuss of us and our son. They have just got new owners with a new chef well worth a visit. Thank you for making or visit to Barbon.
Good luck to the new owners who have only been here since beginning of December. Lovely place but in need of freshening up which the new owners are planning to do. Good was fantastic and service was great. Cheerful and cosy with the open fires blazing, barmaid Donna very chatty and welcoming
We had a lovely meal at the pub last night. The food was delicious and they were accommodating and considerate of our young children’s needs. Of the six of us, everyone really enjoyed their meals. Fish and chips were delightful.
Stopped for a drink during a long walk. Barmaid was lovely, very friendly and chatty. Nice typical olde worlde type pub, with proper stoves to heat in cooler times. Good selecting of beers and cider, good choice of snacks. We didn't eat here, but they do also do food.
Sorry, we don't have any current events or offers for this pub.
