When it comes to a quintessentially English countryside setting, the rural splendour of the Cotswolds is the classic choice and our stylish 17th century coaching inn is right at the heart of it all.
Crackling fires, stag heads adorning the walls and a distinct charcoal-black colour scheme provide a relaxed but refined setting for superb wining and dining. Our restaurant offers a seasonal menu using local produce, including fresh game that comes direct from neighbouring country estates (we particularly recommend the Badminton venison), and in summer we serve wood-fired pizza direct from our outdoor oven.
When the evening draws to a close, rest your head in one of our well-appointed upstairs rooms where four-poster beds and sumptuous bedding ensure a good night’s sleep. Or stay in one of our two self-catering cottages, suitable for families and larger groups.
The Cotwolds is a walkers’ paradise so you’ll find plenty of trails through spectacular countryside and chocolate-box pretty stone villages to delight you. And horse lovers will appreciate the strong network of bridleways to explore (equestrian heritage runs especially deep here, thanks to the annual Badminton Horse Trials in the estate next door). For real Cotswold charm, visit the golden-toned town of Tetbury or Lacock Village, or take a stroll through the nearby Westonbirt National Arboretum to admire one of the world’s finest tree collections.

25 of us enjoyed a New Year's Eve Sunday lunch to celebrate my birthday. Booked the day before so cery last minute for a large party. We could not fault anything. We were a mixed group, ages ranging from 4 to 62 with 3 dogs. We were given the back room, which was beautifully decorated. Staff were delightful, food was amazing; top quality and cooked to perfection! One of our group had joined us last minute and called with specific dietary requirements, which they were more than happy to do. Drinks were flowing, and nothing was too much to ask. Highly recommend 👌
Fantastic pub! Loved our romantic meal in the restaurant and retired to the bar after for a few drinks with live music. Big thank you to Sam and Crystal for looking after us, we will definitely be back!
Couldn’t find the front door… access is via the car park 😆 We had a problem with our room that was promptly sorted, with apologies and a good outcome the next day. The menu was a bit too fancy for our liking but it was hot with plenty of gravy 😊 Would stay here again as plenty to do locally. The politeness and friendliness of everyone who works here is a real credit to them.
The sign outside states "We are super dog-friendly" and they are! We stayed two nights in a great room with its own little lounge area and lovely comfy beds. A bath too, which was a bonus. Breakfasts were amazing. The best part was the genuine, friendly welcome. Crystal and her team are all fantastic. Every one of them went out of their way to be helpful. A perfect stay for us and our dogs. We will return!
Service was great. Staff were friendly and professional. The pub is really nice; clean, cosy and comfortable. We ordered Sunday roasts for our family and the food was a bit disappointing. Felt very much like eating heated left overs. Wasn't awful, but was far from what I'd expect from a pub of its kind. Perhaps an off day.
