The Keelman Pub is named after the river Tyne boatmen of prior years. It is a mix of contemporary and traditional styling which provides an excellent atmosphere.
Enjoy the relaxing ambience of our bar with our range of fine ales, brewed in the traditional way in the Big Lamp Brewery next door. Our bar and restaurant have a warm, friendly atmosphere which is emphasised by the large conservatory which overlooks the patio and trees towards the river.
Beers normally available include the renowned Prince Bishop Ale, award winning Big Lamp Bitter, Summerhill Stout and sometimes the formidable Blackout.
The river Tyne Keelmen that lend it’s name to this historic pub are imotalised in songs such as “The Keel Row” and “Cushy Butterfield”.

Third stay this year. Cannot say a bad word. Service is always exceptional, food was fantastic and rooms are comfy clean and warm. I look forward to my next visit in the new year. A massive thank you to the entire team.
Been going since day 1 of it opening but haven't been recently, though the times I have went the food has been really good and the staff are friendly and helpful, it is always clean inside the bar area and so are the rooms in the lodges.
This place is amazing. The staff are amazing and the place is so clean. Can't say anything els apart from get it booked it's a awsome place and no party people there really. Great for the family people thanks for having us the Taylors.
I've stayed twice now, both times with my young son and we love it. The team are so welcoming to both me and him, they always have a chat with him about the football and he was delighted when they recognised him this time. He left a little disappointed that he didn't get to catch up with Kieron though 🤣🤣🤣! We will definitely stay again, and would definitely recommend to anyone with children looking for a quiet place to stay!
Stayed here for the Sam Fender gig as everywhere in town was ridiculously expensive. Lovely location, very idyllic. There are cows and horses in the fields next to it and lots of greenery. It's right next to the Tyne Riverside Country park where you can walk all the way along the river to Wylam. The bar is good and they have a selection of their own beers. Breakfast was decent at £10 a head, with a selection of cold bits, unlimited tea/coffee and a cooked breakfast. Rooms were slightly dated but no complaints - tea and coffee making facilities were provided and the shower was hot with good pressure. Only downside of staying here was that there's no metro and buses stop around 11am - a taxi into/from town was around £22. Would definitely stay here again.
