Muddy dog friendly and family friendly. Clean bathrooms. Friendly staff. Good prices. Peas were not very fresh and salad was plain and somewhat wilted but the pie, chips, lasagne and garlic bread were all very good. Great for after a long walk.

Absolutely waste of time. Been here so many times in the past and was always fine. Came for a Boxing Day walk as I have done so many times before. Mistake. Absolutely freezing inside, no heating. In the past the fire has been on and it has been a nice atmosphere, but not this time. It was warmer outside than it was inside. The table was cleared by a member of staff when we asked, but not cleaned. Queued at the bar for over 15 minutes, massively understaffed for Boxing Day. When tried to order food, everything we wanted was not available, but there was no mention of this anywhere until after you have queued for ages. Absolutely horrible, run down and lack of facilities. Don’t bother coming here.

I booked for an after-funeral afternoon/evening reception. The manager and team were excellent on the day and really put in the effort to be welcoming, accommodating and make a sad day memorable for all the right reasons. Everyone said how perfect the venue was and we felt relaxed and well catered for and I was truly happy I'd picked JB despite some earlier doubts. The ONLY complaint (which I've made known to the manager), is that in the 2 weeks prior to the event, the communications in the way of texts, calls or emails were mostly slow and did cause concern and some anxiety whether the arrangement was reliable. But in the end, we got what was promised and more, and I'd not hesitate to recommend the venue for your event. I do appreciate new management had only just taken over plus ongoing renovations and other challenges but it's important to respond promptly to customers. Shaun, Melissa and crew were simply delightful. Everyone said it was a fantastic, quite perfect venue for our event and the delightful end to a day of celebrating a life. The cost was also reasonable. Despite the sad occasion, there were a lot of smiles and we were well fed, watered and comfortable. Very well done, team JB! You all deserve a raise!

I called in Today with my Younger Sister, we came for Lunch at 1.00 on a Thursday afternoon. I ordered a Guinness, only to be told "It was off" so I settled for a Lager. We ordered a Burger and Fish n Chips only to be informed, (after Paying) that there was No Fish available 😑 I ordered an 8oz Steak To be "Medium" cooked. When our Food arrived my Sister's Burger was Cold, I was given an Ordinary knife, I tried to cut into my Steak, it was Solid.. I finally cut a Piece and it was Bloody.. so I took my Meal to the Bar and asked to Speak to the Manager... the Barman, a very young man said, "I'll find her when I'm done here" the young server came passed and I asked him to return my Meal as I requested a "Medium" Steak. He agreed it wasn't "Medium" I also asked for a Steak knife. He returned some time Later with the Same COLD Chips, burnt COLD Tomatoes and my original cutlery. Minus a Steak knife. They had in fact re-Fried the Steak so it was now much Darker... yet Still Very Red and Bloody in the Middle. I enclose a Photo of said Steak. Unfortunately I didn't read previous reviews. If I had, I wouldn't be writing this Review as I certainly wouldn't have Come here Today. As I will Most CERTAINLY NOT be returning. It was a Complete Sham and possibly my most unpleasant Lunch experience EVER.

On a nostalgia fest, as I came here as a toddler and youngster decades ago with my family. Very popular place. Food and Drink: I didn't eat in as only start serving at 12 and the bar staff couldn't tell me (or ask) what was vegetarian. I had a lovely hot Latte. Range of soft and alcoholic drinks and some snacks. Seating: Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating (some covered by the tent. Very friendly customers and dog friendly space. Atmosphere: Historic pub with lots of interesting items inside, slightly spoiled outside by in your face signage fixed to the wall. Play Area: Children's play area. Accessibility: Mixed, alternate routes. Getting There: Walking: From the various Meadows, both sides (Chorlton and Sale) of the River Mersey. Tram: Sale Water Park a reasonably short walk up the road. Bike: Bring your own or there us a hire shop close to the pub, or by Car. Car Parking: Riadside Pay and Display, Patrons register car inside for free parking.
