Nestled just beneath Shanklin Chine in an enviable location at the far end of Shanklin Esplanade you will find Fisherman’s Cottage, the town’s original thatched dining pub on the beach with a rich heritage dating back to 1817.
The dining pub is famed for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere and its delicious home cooked food, specialising in seafood which can be found on the Daily Specials Board.
Open from 27th March through to 3 November 2019 ( Closed Mondays) our busy pub is child and dog friendly and perfect for escaping to after a long day on Shanklin beach or following a long coastal stroll around the bay from Sandown and beyond. We look forward to giving you the warmest of welcomes on your visit to the Fisherman’s Cottage.
The Fisherman’s Cottage is part of the same business that runs Shanklin Chine. The pub is situated beside one of the exits from the chine and is close to the entrance. We booked a table by email, but arrived early and had no problem getting a table. It’s a small and comfortable pub that is attractively decorated. The food was good and so was the beer. The staff were helpful and friendly. For warmer times, there is outdoor seating.
After visiting the Shanklin Chine, we walked down hill and straight to the Fisherman’s Cottage, an adorable little pub on the beach. Lovely decor, friendly staff, fast service - we loved the little buzzers on the table that you press if you need anything. The vegetarians in our family were happy with their choices, Grilled Halloumi and Jacket Potatoes with Cheese and Beans. My husband and I liked our Seafood Spaghetti, the taste was fine, however the presentation left a lot to be desired. Fish and Chips were also fine, good portions.
We came to Isle of Wight and one of the most recommended place was Shanklin Chine and Fisherman's Cottage. But we were not very pleased with the pub nor there service. Food was just okay- we had squid for starters, Fish and chips and Scampi for main course. Scampi was good and juicy. But rest of food was just okay, nothing special. Ambience outside maybe would have been better with view of beach. The girl who was taking our orders she was very sweet and pleasant- only for her I will get extra star. Otherwise it's just okay restaurant around Shanklin. Unfortunately it didn't meet our expectations from the reviews we read in Google.
Was very busy, visited in the past for a drink, this time managed to get a table :-) This is pub grub which was expected, but cooked to a high standard and served to a even higher standard. I ordered just white bait (with no salad) it was the best white bait I have eaten and certainly meal sized!!!!! We also had scampi and chips and a fish pie, both dishes perfectly cooked and meal sized portions (scampi was again the best eaten) Staff all polite and happy to help and chat! The atmosphere next to the beach was equally amazing You really must try this place, it ticks every box, Will certainly be going again
Great pub with good food. The view is unbeatable, staff is good but take too much pride in the ‘we are a bit slow paced in the Island’ vibe, I may have some of my order because I thought u were ready, I was not rushing you, everything else was great apart from that. No mainland prejudice please.
