The Islay Inn reopened in August 2008 under new ownership. The pub has maintained its traditional roots with the help of all the teuchtars, young and old!

The Islay Inn is a traditional Scottish pub between Glasgow’s Westend and City Centre. The pub is named after Islay, the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides. Traditionally, the Islay Inn has seen many guests from the Scottish Highlands and Islands, who found a “home from home” in the Islay. Nowadays, the pub also attracts international students who live and study nearby and tourists, who are always welcomed here.
Went on a Tuesday night and was rightly entertained by a meeting of The Glasgow Fiddlers (I think!) - half the pub was filled with fiddlers, guitarists, banjo, various guitar-like instruments and an accordionist. Great accompaniment to a couple of pints of Guinness - was brilliant...
It has a good selection of whiskeys, but not too many beers. A good selection of gins. No food was served when I visited, so not sure if they serve food regularly. Seating is limited as well and outdoor seating is on the pavement. Staff is friendly.
A relaxing haven with gracious hospitality in a comfortable environment. Our hostess/bartender Rachel was just the best. With less than 1 week in Glasgow, we had to go back and enjoy it a second time today.
Excellent local pub, friendly staff, great atmosphere, great selection of drinks. I'd love to come here one evening for a music session.
I’d need to give this place another try as I feel I caught it on a bad moment but on a Saturday night it was absolutely jam packed. The band was on full blast and the crowd were really REALLY drunk. Atmosphere was a bit chaotic so it’s hard to judge it’s character fully. Just wasn’t very inviting on this occasion.

Next to its sister establishments Mono, Stereo, The Old Hairdresser’s and The Flying Duck, and it’s new East-coast cousin Harmonium, The 78 is something of an odd one out.
