About us

William and the team welcome you to Horts. Named after the 18th century artist, essayist and bon viveur Arthur Hort, born at the top of the road, the names Hort and Bristol have been synonymous for hundreds of years. Now fully restored to maximise the existing features; whilst adding light and space to create the most welcoming of environments, Horts blends the best of a traditional city pub with contemporary style.

Second stay at Horts. We were in the Feature Boutique this time, some great features especially the round recessed ceiling light which was like having a ceiling window. It was a cold weekend, bathroom chilly but did warm slightly after we turned on the electric towel rail. For some reason the air con went into standby at random times. Had dinner one night and Jamie the Manager played a blinder with service and chat. Mussels were lovely and plump whilst the fish very tasty with batter light and crispy. Housekeeping lady was very helpful and customer focused. Three things we missed that we would have liked. Tissues, slippers and feather pillows. 5stars if provided. Definitely stay again.

Hort’s Townhouse is a Bristolian gem of a pub. On the Friday afternoon we visited, it seemed to be a hit with businessmen and students alike. Walking distance from the city centre, it is a relaxed pub and B&B with nice decor and very friendly service. On this occasion my partner and I had lunch and drinks. We had the roast pork belly, with the crispiest skin I have ever encountered. I am certain the crunch would have been heard from the next room. The accompaniments (chard and apple) were also well-matched. The scotch egg (served warm and with mustard) was also definitely something to write home about. The lighting and background music were fantastic and even the conveniences were well-maintained and sweet-smelling. Well-recommended.

The Hort's Town house was recommended by my brother. We were glad we stayed here! The service, rooms and food were second to none! The rooms were tastefully decorated and clean. The service was first class and food delicious. We had a deal which includes breakfast and one dinner. I recommend the full English. The pub is spacious and nicely decorated, as were the bedrooms. There was an honesty fridge in the bedroom and tea and coffee machine in the bedroom too. There is also a safe if you need one. I'd definitely recommend the Hort's and would stay here again!

I visited this place hoping for a roast, but they stopped serving it after 6 pm. Instead, I had the Catch of the day, which was decent and fresh but nothing extraordinary. On the bright side, the drink was good and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. It's a shame they couldn't fulfill my roast craving, though. I will make sure to come back in the afternoon next time.
