Situated in the port of Newhaven, linking the UK to France via Dieppe, The Hope Inn is a country pub by the sea. The area is surrounded by chalk down land, which includes the famous Seven Sisters Sea Cliffs and the Cuckmere Valley to its east and Peacehav
We are proud to be a family run, family friendly pub - well behaved dogs are also welcome.
Enjoy your favourite tipple or a bite to eat in our comfortable bar or conservatory and our beer garden and decking area is ideal for al fresco drinking and dining during the warmer summer months.
If it’s live entertainment you’re after then you’ll love our regular live bands and open mic nights.
Food at the Hope Inn is homemade including a selection of our tempting desserts. Wherever possible we use the finest locally sourced ingredients to create your favourite pub classics. We also run a daily specials board and our Sunday roasts are not to be missed! We have something for every appetite as we can do smaller portions of our main meals to suit you if you’re not so hungry.

Brilliant place to stop, eat and relax before boarding the night ferry to Dieppe. Warm friendly welcome and menu was traditional pub food but good portions and beautifully cooked. Lots of parking for big and small vehicles. We had a private table. Lots of space not cramped or noisy.
Absolutely loved our steaks this evening and even better was unexpectedly turning up on burns night and being able to try the amazing haggis! the food and staff are awesome always vistit here before our trip to France. See you guys again soon
Lovely welcoming atmosphere. I had a Caesar salad which was fine & my husband had sausages with veg which were crisp & tasty. The Ladies toilet was clean and there was a basket of sanitary products & babies' nappies available for anyone who needed them with a notice above saying "Help yourself". I thought that this was very thoughtful and mentioned it to the staff who said that it was the cleaner who had brought them in, so hats off to that person.
The atmosphere was very nice, The service was also good. The food was nice, just a little too much salt on the cabbage. Otherwise, it was a very nice meal. Car parking was opposite the Hope Inn. A very nice view of the harbour, if you are upstairs .
Friendly "old fashioned" British pub which serves excellent food and has a great atmosphere! We arrived really early for our 11pm ferry so this was the perfect place to eat and relax beforehand. The moules mariners was delicious! Friendly staff ready to have a laugh with us.
