About us

The older part of this public house is recorded in the Commercial Directory for Durham County, dated 1828–9, as The Highland Laddie and has also been referred to as The Highlander, but is generally known as The Highland Lad. Its name is a reminder of the Scottish drovers who herded cattle to markets as far south as London.

5 stars as far as Wetherspoons go. Quick table service and very convenient to be able to order on the app. It is much cleaner than most other pubs and bars too. Lots of seating also meaning it never really gets too crowded.

The food was great. The staff are friendly, polite and helpful. It's just a nice place to go either for brekkie in the morning or a drink on an evening.

We usually only get drinks here, it gets very busy, but it's very affordable

Crowded and busy but service was very fast and friendly. Nice beers on tap and adequate food at cheap prices as usual.
