Our first road trip across America’s Southern States sure did start something...
We made friends with pitmasters in Texas, ate pulled pork in South Carolina, baby back ribs in Memphis & burnt ends in Kansas City - meeting some of the friendliest folk on earth along the way.
One journey was never going to be enough, so every year we scour the backroads & highways from Missouri to Mississippi in the name of new recipes to take home. We’re now roughly up to 18 trips to over 70 towns & cities across the states & counting…
The first Hickory’s Smokehouse opened in 2010 in Chester, a year to the day after the first roadtrip & we’ve been welcoming guests ever since. We had our wedding reception here on 11th December. Josh and his team were absolutely brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble for them, everything was easy to organise, they really took the stress out of the day. The food as always was delicious and plentiful. Our guests were all extremely happy and we most definitely were. Thank you so much to you all.
The atmosphere of Christmas are all around you. I really like this because it makes people happy. Besides that, there were a surprise factor inside the restaurant, which is a Free cinema as a kids' movie. It is so attractive for any family with kids.
First time trying here... Food was absolutely delicious + filling! Staff are so welcoming + friendly, wasn't too busy when we arrived but did start to get a little busy as we was leaving. Nice + clean restaurant lots of parking. Definitely recommend. For 2 starters, 2 mains + 1 side of fries, 4 drinks we spent £86
Fabulous food!! Had an issue with a main course but dealt with extremely professionally and we were satisfied with the exemplary service! Beautiful Christmas decorations 🎄🍭 🎅🏼 Didn’t sit outside but the booths looked gorgeous and there were blankets and hot water bottles for warmth. The corn dogs were immense! I want a couldren now to make smores over! Have you got merchandise? 🤩 Thank you 🤩
On the whole I do recommend this place. I love the food, the theme and it isn't too far to travel as opposed to the Southport one which was a trek from Preston. Parking is a nightmare though! If you manage to get a space firstly, congrats but the spaces are too narrow so even small cars struggle getting in and out. I cannot see past the single platter for 1 when I go. The platter has a lot of everything and I am always full to the brim when I leave. I have tried other dishes like the brisket sub, burgers etc. but the platter still pips any of these. The cost at the point of this review is £31.50 which is steep in my opinion but when you weigh up a main and a starter, it is not much more and you definitely don't need a starter if you get the platter. The service has improved since the first few months of opening but it still needs some work as if you go at busy times, which given its location means this is all the time, you either have to order as soon as you sit or you could be waiting 15-20 minutes if you don't prompt the waiter to come back. Paying is also a drawn out process as trying to get a waiters attention always seems difficult but when they go to get the bill, it takes them ages to return with it and then they disappear again for ages to get the card machine!?! It's 2023, 90% of people gonna need that card machine. Atmosphere is good but when they have a live band on in particular, it gets too loud and uncomfortable trying to have a conversation at your table.
