As a local, such a shame the pub has once again shut. Over 15 years to loose the village shop and then the pub is sorry. The other village pub the cross keys seems to be doing very well.
As some of the other reviews suggest, firstly, the manager is unbelievably passive aggressive. I wrote a very honest review on another site only to be called by the manager, condescending etc. The accommodation and the manager are agreeable as long as you don't complain! As I write this, I am awaiting backlash from the passive aggressive manager. When I stayed, nobody to greet us and another couple on arrival. We were left wandering around around, trying to find any staff. This went on for 15 minutes or so. We nearly left actually. The other issue is the general unpleasantness of the staff who, when asked for a bowl of chips, we were met with distaste. The vegetarian breakfast menu is very limited (the manager will now argue that there is fruit and cereal and a veggie sausage) yay for vegetarians. I'll await the backlash from the manager.......!
Nice pub with traditional decor, a warm friendly interior, and barstaff. The beer is excellent and they do food though I have not eaten there. Adequate parking out back, and outside seating available. Well worth a visit.
Popped in for local ale as was overnighting at another place over the River. Was very quiet (was a Wednesday), staff and service very helpful and friendly. Seemed like a good mix of locals and tourists. Would be interested to stay over night next time.
This is a hidden gem located perfectly for walks along the river wye. With miles of public footpaths The Hostelrie is one not to miss if you are foodie addicts like us. From the room, emenities, bar to food and restaurant, everything met expectations and more. We take our hat off to the couple running this. A perfect retreat for a quick get away and not mention dog friendly.
