Kennington Road’s newest pub The Hercules is bringing tradition back into London’s South Bank. Named after the circus strongman Hercules, the pub brings the history surrounding the creation of the modern circus and Lambeth’s entertainment-rich past back into the spotlight.
Located on the site of former local legend, Hikari, this is a classic case of large, corporate pub mediocrity. Food was Ok, overpriced for what it was. Waitress touched the wrong end of the knife and fork while placing on the table. Toilets had an interesting odour. Small portion of chips with the burger for £18. Insisted on taking food orders at the table despite being very quiet, cashing in on that service charge.
Visited for my birthday on Sunday April 23rd. Did not know ahead of time that this was the day of the London Marathon, we just wanted to have a Sunday Roast. Table was reserved and ready when we arrived, but the building was packed and incredibly loud. Service was slow owing to the overwhelming number of people. When our roast arrived it was warm, but not hot, and not as good as we had hoped. Not much beef, hard yorkshire pudding, lukewarm veg, but very good cauliflower cheese. Thankfully the flavours were decent. Might consider giving it another try if we make it back overseas, but would not go at a busy time.
Lovely pub with good food options, including some vegetarian and vegan. Kitchen open till late for UK standards. We specially liked the burgers, salads and tacos. Great beer and cider selection. Friendly and efficient staff, ample space both indoors and outside.
Had Sunday lunch here. It’s a great quality pub with good food and a tremendous selection of beers and ales both local and foreign. The food was delicious. It’s well located in Lambeth North not too far from Waterloo station. Staff are friendly and helpful. It’s perhaps a little overpriced I think, hence just 4-stars but otherwise everything was awesome.
It was team late dinner and the place was recommended by one of our British colleagues. It a kind of bar and the have a nice food and drinks menu. We have ordered a mix of starters to share and I had fish & chips as a main course. The vibes and service were excellent. Ranking: Starters:3/5 Fish & chips: 2.5/5 Service: 5/5 Overall rating 3/5 I don’t think I will go there again
