The Hawes Inn has strong connections with the celebrated author Robert Louis Stevenson, who was born in Edinburgh on the 13th November 1850. It is said that he stayed in the Inn and actually wrote part of the famous novel 'Kidnapped' in one of the rooms. Indeed the Kidnapped actually includes a passage about the Hawes Inn.

A really nice experience with excellent food and service. The portions are generous the ambience is lovely. We'll definitely be back 🙂
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here this afternoon. I had the duck and orange parfait to start and garlic prawn skewers with a selection of humus and flat breads and they were all delicious. The waitress was very friendly and attentive, would highly recommend.
Nice decor clean and tidy but as a couple you always end up with the worst tables. Sadly on a slope and on the main waiter/waitress thoroughfare. That said food was lovely when it arrived. Blessed with a world class location.
We only stayed one night, but it was very nice. Dinner was great- Sunday roast & sea bass- both delicious! Yorkshire puddings we’re excellent. Rooms were cozy and clean. We had the room by the stairs so we could hear people coming/going if loud. Only complaint: the restaurant is dog friendly and a family had their dog that wouldn’t stop barking. It was really unpleasant and we ended up leaving as soon as we could.
Nice Inn and good location on sea front. Lovely views. Food is really good. Had fish and chips, was very good and decent sized portion. Dog friendly which is great.
