About us

The Hare and Hounds is a historic gem in the heart of picturesque Lothersdale. The pub is one of the oldest buildings in the village. It is considered the heart of the Dale End part of the village and is a perfect location from which to appreciate views of this part of the village. The building has been in use as an inn since its construction and has the window shapes, roofline and thick walls typical of historic buildings in the village. The forecourt was used as the setting for the annual sheep fair until the turn of the century. On the site of the car park opposite the pub there used to stand the “Pinfold”, a circular enclosure which was used as a safe place to hold stray sheep until they were claimed. A bronze plaque marks the site. For much of its history the pub has been a traditional Yorkshire village pub serving the local community. At one point it was a Websters pub and featured in one of the famous Websters Bitter adverts in the 70’ (“Sugar Lumps”). In recent years it has been completely refurbished and updated and many original features restored. It now combines the charms of a historic inn with modern amenities and offers hospitality to the residents of Lothersdale as well as visitors and travellers from afar.
Surf & Turf - Great Food from the Hare & Hounds Lothersdale
The food, like the pub itself, mixes tradition with modernity. We serve many pub classics, always using the best locally available ingredients to give a Yorkshire twist, as well as some more modern dishes for the more adventurous. We are a free house and offer a range of locally brewed real ales and our own selection of wines, beers, lagers and ciders. We also have an extensive range of gins and mixers. The Pennine Way runs through Lothersdale and passes directly in front of the pub, making it an ideal spot to take a break and enjoy some refreshment.

My friend Emma and I had the most amazing meal here whilst walking the Pennine Way. Even though I was a bit dishevelled as we had been going pretty much non-stop for 2.5 days we were treated very well and were revived by the great food.

Wonderful meal with friends. New to the area, we heard good reports of H&H so decided to book for lunch when our friends came to visit as dog friendly. We enjoyed a warm welcome and delighted to see comfy mats laid out for our two dogs who enjoyed much love and treats. The food was fantastic, we each chose different main meals and desserts, and all were thoroughly enjoyed,. The cost was very reasonable and we will definitely be returning many times.

Lovely and clean with a cosy atmosphere. Food was excellent, there's a nice option for some smaller versions of the main dishes.

Really lovely pub, we went whilst on a walk along a small part of the Penine Way. Great pub, that allows dogs (we didn’t bring one but enjoyed the canine company) and had vegan salted caramel ice cream. Drinks were a decent price, nice and cool place on a hot day. All the staff were friendly.

Brilliant. Can’t believe we’ve never visited before, it’s a stone’s throw from Skipton. Rare we get out to Sunday lunch without the kids, so it’s a precious occasion. The Hare & Hounds didn’t disappoint, it’s a really lovely, well cared for pub run brilliantly. Great Sunday lunch and excellent, warm, service. We’ll be back!
