Friendly and welcoming staff, food was very tasty. Plenty of rainy day board games for adults and kids. The outdoor play area is impressive. Would happily visit again!
But beware they want you to tip now just for bringing you a plate out from the kitchen!! We've been visiting the Rising Sun for years because we always know the food and atmosphere will be really good plus we can bring our dog in with us. As we walk regularly in the Forest, we eat here very often. We've had a busy year this year however and hadn't visited for a while so we were looking forward to Sunday lunch after a walk. The food and staff didn't disappoint but I was really angry the card machine now asks if I want to leave a tip and offers suggested amounts!! I mean come on, I order the food and drinks at the bar myself, collect my own cutlery and your staff just carry a couple of plates to the table. If I go anywhere with proper table service and it's good, I will tip, but not for this. I wonder if it's because they aren't increasing staff wages and are expecting customers to supplement them? Won't visit again because it's being expected.
Long time since I last visited here. A friend had a birthday and suggested that we went to the Rising Sun, what an excellent suggestion. Although the restaurant wasn't that busy the service was great, the staff very friendly and the atmosphere just right. The menu was quite extensive and the 4 dishes that we had between us was very palatable and generous portions, not too large. I don't think that it be that long before I use here again. Well done
Management (?) moved on since I last visited year ago. Food was ok, with large portions. Self service cutlery, serviettes and sauce sachets is common nowadays, along with order at the bar and get your own drinks from the bar....but to have the cheek to ask on the card machine if I wanted to leave 10 or even 20 (?) percent tip when the only service was bringing food to the table! I was outraged.
The staff were polite and friendly. The food was good and the outdoor park was a highlight for our kids as we finished our drinks outside.
