Food, Atmosphere and Service all excellent. With Amazing value thrown in. Thoroughly recommended.
Lovely evening spent with the family. We tried a range of items from the menu. The burger was beautiful, the steak a decent size, the scallops were beautiful. I went for the small size haddock and I am glad I did it was huge! Atmosphere was good apart from a slightly rowdy group on the next table. The service is in all honesty a bit slow but the staff are really nice. A little more expensive than an average pub but the food is a cut above.
Sunday roasts are good, but you get very little, we both got literally 2 potatoes each and a smol helping of mash, although admittedly they are quite good. The beef was kinda overdone and dry. A toilet refurb would be a shout.
The food was amazing, we couldn't fault it, portion sizes were generous. I was hoping to try something from their dessert menu but no room, after a starter of scallops and a main of beef cheek. Compliments to the chef !! The furniture though is tired which was the only thing that let our visit down. Just some chair covers would improve the rooms. Otherwise a fabulous visit .
Fantastic portions and great quality food! Grey Ox Inn is a very cosy and hidden away Pub/Restaurant. The atmosphere here was calm, relaxed (Tue evening) and felt very welcoming. There is a great Ox head mounted in the entrance and the decor is country style with exposed beams and tweed furnishings. Plenty of parking (30+ spaces) The staff were attentive, although it seemed we changed waiters a few times. Gave enough time and were helpful to accommodate requests without issue. The cocktails pictured tasted great, no complaints to quality or taste. The mains we had (sirloin steaks medium rare) were a good portion and came with ample accompaniments.(Hand cut chunky chips, onion rings, rocket salad with honey mustard dressing, mushroom & grilled tomato) One of our steaks was a little too rare in the middle, but it was still good so felt it did not need returning. Blue cheese sauce was great. My partner loved it, i felt a dash of cornstarch to thicken it slightly would have completed it for me. The garlic butter sauce was great. The desert again was great, creme brûlée with a chocolate shortbread slice. No complaints here. Would return again, perfect for a Sunday or quiet mid week evening getaway meal.
