Gordon’s Wine Bar is thought to be the oldest wine bar in London having been established in 1890. The bar is very much a family affair, owned by Wendy Gordon who is the wife of the late much loved Luis Gordon, and now overseen by Luis’ eldest son Simon.
The Gordon’s wine bar family includes the bar staff many of whom have been with us for years under the caring management of Gerard who brings French joie de vivre to the atmosphere and ensures our customers are well looked after. We try to maintain the bar as our customers like it which basically means “no change!”. We have maintained the original décor and sell only wine, whilst providing traditional and well priced grub…. easier said than done in a world dominated by rules and regulations!
The bar is loved by old and young alike due to the totally unique atmosphere in which time seems to have stood still. As you enter the bar you find yourself in a room with old wooden walls covered in historical newspaper cuttings and memorabilia faded with age. Make your way to the cellar and you need to stoop to get to your rickety candlelit table – anonymity is guaranteed! If the sun is out you can also sit outside in Watergate Walk and enjoy watching the world go by. The bar is loved by many because it has something to offer to each and every one of its customers.
Totally worth the wait if you end up having to queue. I absolutely love this place. I much prefer sitting inside bc it’s got such a cool, cavernous vibe, but there are rarely tables available. Fortunately, the outside seating is still absolutely lovely and well heated in the winter.
I had a fantastic night with my friends at Gordon's! They offer an excellent selection of European wines and a delightful assortment of smorgasbords. We had a great time together. The place is definitely unique, especially with the cellar. The atmosphere is pleasant, with candlelight adding to the charm.
This wine bar exceeded our expectations and was well worth the wait. Visiting on our first night in London, we anticipated a 15-20 minute wait for seating. Surprisingly, even in winter, they offered cozy outside seating equipped with ample heat lamps, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Our server was not only friendly but also informative. Learning that we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary, he graciously treated us to two complimentary glasses of champagne. The wines and charcuterie board were simply delicious, leaving us with a desire to revisit during our stay, though time didn’t allow. For wine enthusiasts, Gordon’s is a must-add to your list; you’re sure to love the experience.
Gordon's Wine Bar is a wine Paradise. This place is located near embankment tube station. They have a huge collection different types of tasty cheeses and wines. We went there at evening and had a great time. The staffs are helpful and kind. We seated outside under the radiator lights in lightly cold weather.
Stunning wine bar located just outside Charing Cross station. This little beaut does not take bookings, so it’s queue only but if you’re lucky you may get to walk straight in if you want to stand by the bar. The wait is totally worth it though, the inside is stunning and looks barely touched since it opened. They also have a very smart outdoor area which is very large and therefore the waiting time is drastically reduced compared to sitting inside. Outside has heaters too so it’s cosy. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Huge choice of wines to suit all tastes. We had a charcuterie board which was nice, we ran out bread and they replenished it free of charge 👌 haven’t tried any other food yet, but we will. Highly recommended and I will be back soon for sure! 🍷🧀🥃
