York's first community co-operative pub in the heart of Bishophill.
The Golden Ball boasts seven handpull cask ales with an emphasis on good quality locally produced beer. We have three permanent ales, Timothy Taylors Golden Best, a lovely and well respected light mild session beer at 3.5%, Everards Tiger, a copper coloured 4.2% best bitter, and local micro-brewery Treboom's Yorkshire Sparkle, our best selling 4% very pale ale. Alongside those are four ever-changing guest ales, we try and keep a light and dark beer always available, a perfect line up for all tastes!
We also sell fresh, local free range eggs from Johnson's in Terrington, who deliver direct to the pub each week, and amazing artisan bread hand made by Al from BlueBird Bakery, just around the corner. The bread is delivered each Saturday morning as we open at 12noon, get in quick for your loaf and a pint!
Our focus is on the community and we have a range of events and community groups using the pub. We have hosted weddings, christenings, weekly baby groups, choirs, children’s Christmas parties and Pensioners History talks, gardening events and coffee mornings, clothes swaps and charity fundraisers. We have regular craft fairs and art exhibitions too. Come and tell us your ideas if you want to use the space and we will do our best to accommodate. Details of upcoming events can be found on Facebook and on the calendar in the Events section of this website.

Fantastic back street local pub with an excellent ale selection. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and nice other customers to boot!
Great community pub, they could be a bit more adventurous on the beer choice but appreciate they want to support local suppliers.
Great local pub, great service from the staff and the beer is always high quality. As a real local pub there is loads going on to get involved with. If you want something off the beaten track then try the Golden Ball.
Guinness was lovely, it came recommended and it didn't let me down. Nice quiet atmosphere, just perfect.
Not visited since 1995 and it's still a brilliant pub. Great beer, open fires, friendly and relaxed. The perfect pub.
