Awful, arrived at 5.20, Hotel smelt musky and damp but being a old building your to expect that, we checked in and showed to our room. We tried to put the TV on for back round and looking for the remote which we found in the draw next to a spoon with white powder on it and burnt underneath obviously someone been smoking crack in the room at somepoint. We got the spoon and gave it to the man on the desk witch he didn't really seem bothered about this disgusting thing. We went back to our room my partner wanted a bath to find that there was no hot water and also no hot radiators as the room was freezing we layed down to chill and watch TV my partner had began to itch alot to find she had bite marks on her legs we checked the bedding and it was filthy and smelly so we left at 22.55 never again what a dive.
Place appears to have been a nice hotel once, but is now in desperate need of renovation. The whole place had a smell of ‘old/damp’ furthering the need for some serious renovations from the front door through to the bedrooms. Beds were uncomfortable and clearly very old. No restaurant or bar available for food or drinks all weekend which was disappointing. However it was as clean as it could be considering and was cheap. Ultimately you get what you pay for, I would not stay again.
The food and service was very good . We had a meal in The Carvery. The selection of meats and vegetables was very wide and cooked well. We can recommend The Fountain Court on this point Unfortunately, the building itself would benefit from decoration inside and outside and the grounds have been neglected. It could be a very good venue if it was tidied up.
We went to the Fountain Court tonight for a meal after recommendations from a friend. We had the carvery. It was delicious. Will definitely be going back. The staff are so lovely and attentive. OK the hotel is a bit run down but look past that. We'll worth a visit.
After the reviews on here we were a little worried about what to expect upon arrival, however despite its exterior we were pleasantly surprised. The owners were friendly and accomodating with our requirements. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was not included in the price, but you had the option to purchase this in the morning. It was a self service and plenty of choice to keep you going for the day. We also stayed for Carvery one evening and this was lovely home cooked food and great value for money. Drink prices were reasonable. Would definately stay again if coming down to the new forest again.
