The Criterion is a small family run traditional Scottish Pub established in 1874 in the heart of St Andrews, we have a wide range of locally sourced food and drink specialising in Cask Ale & Whisky, with over 160 whiskies, 70+ Scottish Gins .
A cracking pub located at the far end of south street, St Andrews. Relax with a few drinks and watch this bustling university town go by. This pub features a big picture window and oak-panelled walls adorned with photographs of St Andrews in days gone by. The pub is renowned for its homemade meals and the legendary Cri-pie. Background music plays and a plasma screen shows sport. Open music night on Monday is popular with local artists, and a regular quiz night is hosted during the week.
We had a very lovely meal at the Criterion on Saturday December 9th. It was our first visit. They have an excellent selection of beers, lagers and spirits. It is clearly a very popular place for food and drink. We will certainly go there again, when we are next in St. Andrews.
So on the launch of The Criterion's new menu, we had to give The Belly Buster a go. Bacon, haggis, hash browns & sausage topped with cheese on a breakfast roll. We managed to vlear our plates without a burst belly but had to go for a late morning nap when we got back to our caravan. We can highly recommend The Belly Buster but will revert back to a standard breakfast roll in future.
First of all the staff is AMAZING! The manager is extremely kind and cares for customers like family. Food is hands down perfect and fish is as fresh as it just came from water. Huge props for a perfectly poured Guinness as I’m very picky about that. Can’t wait to be back to Scotland and will make sure to be there again ! Thank you Criterion!
One of the stops on our tour today is St Andrews. We dropped off in town, and did a bit of window shopping, selecting The Criterion for lunch. We choose to sit inside, and got a choice booth at the front window. Frazier was out wait staff. He was GREAT!! Told all about the Cri-Pie they are famous for. He indicated they sell over a 100 a day! We opted for a 1/2 pint of Guinness for the misses and a pint of Scottish beer for me. The had the Cri-pie and Debra had a meat chibata. We snuck on a flight of whiskey also! “The Criterion”. It was nice to try a few (4) different types. The Cri-pie was awesome!! I had the steak and ale pie. It had steak, peas, and Yukon potatoes in a brown gravy, with a puff pastry across the top! We loved it.!! I would recommend this great place all day long! Wonderful service, the food was awesome, and a lovely atmosphere!! Ps.. you can dine inside or outside. Your call ! Thanks Frazier!! You made our visit a success!!
A very sweet, traditional, family owned pub! Serves great food too!
